...please grow up and realize you can't have everything in life. My experience viewing the version of Star Wars I have known and loved has been this: a old movie theater in the 70s and 80s with mono sound, TV broadcasts and VHS. This DVD release ...of the movies that I loved in my childhood beats all those experiences hands down. Neither I nor my wife cared for the "special editions" or the new films. When we learned these DVDs were to be released we were overjoyed. Now that we have the DVDs we are very glad Mr. Lucas made them available. Is George trying to squeeze blood from a stone? Without doubt. My wife and I were of that opinion when the first theatrical run of the special editions came out. Don't kick yourself too hard for believing the hype and spending your money on previous versions. Just enjoy these original films for the time they were made and the memories they bring back. Peace. Wow, where to start? This has been plugged as the original theatrical release, but for some reason it's on the bonus second disc. The first disc is that horrible special edition. As far as the original goes, it's been put in 16:9 format insid...e a 4:3 window. Not even anamorphic widescreen. Picture quality is BAD...Really bad. Shame on George Lucas for not using a restored master for the transfer. Wait, how about not even using a CLEAN master for this job. I feel sorry for the 25 or so reviewers before me who have done nothing but praise this mess. Shame on you too! Read more Less

I am a self professed Star Wars geek. I do have my limits. I applaud George Lucas for giving us the original versions of the movies, but these versions were taken directly from the laser disc versions. They are not even DVD quality.

Obi Wan’s Lightsaber

Shame on those who like the new movies better than the originals. Special effects alone don't make a movie great. Its really sad to see how star wars are going to end with the new crap trilogies.
