Only for the TRUE Star Wars Fans

By Yahoo! Shopping User  May 21, 2003 | 0 out of 1 found this Star Wars Episodes I & II 2-Pack (1999) review helpful

For those of you whove buried these films...I seriously doubt that IF these films came out in ORDER, 1 thru 6 that youd be complaining. Imagine #1 being the very first film released in 1977. Think about that! The film would still have that appeal, because the whole Star Wars universe and the special effects are what set them apart. Now the TRUE fans are being weeded out...only the diehards will continue to see the beauty in these films, due to the proliferation of similar copycat films that have dominated the film scenes since Star Wars originally came out. Part of the problem within these films is that in being prequels, the end result is already known...which takes away from a lot of the suspense, yet not all of it. As for the love scenes, I personally found them acceptable considering the story line. For those that detest these films and rate them as such, I know where you now stand....corrupted by the film culture that now exists (as a result of Star Wars impact over the years, instead of viewing them as they should be viewed.) I find that the characters appeal to the youth, for those of us who still have a window to that world.

    The Best Looking DVD's Ever!

By Yahoo! Shopping User  Mar 3, 2003

Episode II is the first fully digital movie to be released on a DVD and it looks like a differant movie than what it looked like at the movie theaters (if you had to watch it on a regular, old reel screen like me.) Also, the movies kick ass (Darth Maul and Obi-Wan fight scene, the Geonosian battle, and Yoda and Dooku's battle are some of the best action sequences, ever!)

    Star Wars II is awesome!

By Yahoo! Shopping User  Dec 19, 2002

The feature disk is great but the second disk is awesome. The second disk is actually longer than the feature. I like that because it explain everything about the Attack of the Clones including the kitchen sink. I strongly recommend this not only for the feature, but especially the special features.

Lucas just ain't hungry any more.

By Yahoo! Shopping User  Dec 12, 2002

I have some of the best memories of my childhood that revolved around Star Wars. The movies were stellar and the action figures?- Ahh those were the days.
I sat wringing my hands in eager anticipation of the fruits of Lucas' labors. I figured CERTAINLY if he put together such amazing films 20 years ago, the prequels would cast them into the eternal shadows of history. So opening night I paid the stiff price to see the 30 minutes of previews and an hour and a half of something I cannot describe in any other way than plain ole' garbage. I left that theater head hung low. Ashamed that I was a Star Wars fan. Ashamed that I was a Lucas fan.
I gave it some serious thought three years later standing in the line to Episode 2 that Lucas had all the money, technology, TIME and manpower to unleash yet another historic film event with Episode 1, and he blew it. So why was I here? (step...wait...step) After all (step...wait...step) he didn't earn my money from the last flick. In fact the way I saw it, he owed me. (step...wait...step) But I forked over the money this time planning on being stunned into reverence by his skill and talent in Episode 2. And after being sufficently upset by yet another hour and a half of what looked like Cannes Film Festival failures prancing around in an amazing CGI masterpiece, I fled the theater.
Two stikes Lucas. And this ain't baseball. So here it is between the eyes. You lost it pal. Whatever genie you let out of the bottle has granted you 3 wishes and left the building. You need to watch carefully as Lord of the Rings teaches you what you already know. It's hunger, that over-budget over-time boss breathing down your neck stress kinda hunger that makes you shine. Without it your just another dime a dozen producer that gave his fans nothing in exchange for what they gave you.

    Awesome Action

By Yahoo! Shopping User  Dec 10, 2002

There is only one thing that is weak with these movies: the screenplay. The actors know how to act, and what they are given they pull off well. But the dialogue is just terrible at some parts. However, we do have to keep in mind that it is a galaxy far, far away. So the way things are said and expressed are expected to be different. Other than that, action is great, the sfx are astounding, the sound is vibrating, and the music is phenomenal.

Let's pretend these movies don't exist

By Yahoo! Shopping User  Dec 9, 2002 | 1 out of 2 found this Star Wars Episodes I & II 2-Pack (1999) review helpful

The original Star Wars trilogy are probably 3 of my favorite movies. Sure, sometimes the dialog is a bit hokey, and everyone loves to laugh at Luke when he whines, but the story was fresh, and the talented young actors brought so much life and comraderie to their characters.

I was as excited as any life-long Star Wars fan when Episode 1 was coming out. I pre-ordered tickets to 2 shows on the first day. I tried to like it, I really did, but I think George Lucas basically bowed to the power of the almighty dollar and threw together these movies that lack any sort of quality writing, dialog, acting, and story, and basically just tarnish the reputation of 3 of my favorite films.

The first movie is painfully slow, and most of the action revolves around an 8-year old boy with the acting range of my Golden Retriever. The only interesting characters in the film are Obi-wan, who stays aboard the ship for 3/4 of the film waiting for the rest of the crew to return, and Darth Maul, who is killed off because Lucas is a fool. The whole midichlorian/virgin birth idea is riduculous, and besides light saber battles, there is nothing worth watching in this film.

So then there is Episode 2. Yeah, this one was supposed to redeem Lucas after the poor reviews from the first film, but I actually like this one less. Hayden Christiansen is the worst actor on the face of the Earth. I will not argue this point. It is objective and a fact. Every scene he is in is disturbingly uncomfortable, and he brings down the rest of the cast. Natalie Portman, who puts in a quality performance in the first film, despite awful writing, just stinks in this one, and it's all because of Christiansen. Lucas totally destroys the character of Boba Fett by taking away all of the mystery that made him a fan favorite for years and making him into a ridculous clone boy. I wanted to cry. Sure, some of the light saber battles are cool, and Yoda kicks butt for about 2 minutes, but the embarrassing 'Yoda Man!' commericals have tainted that scene forever.

I wish these movies were never made. They have just hurt the original story (and by original I do NOT mean the reissues from 1997. Han shooting second, please!?). It just goes to show that Star Wars fans (myself included) will pay to see any crap with the same name, in hopes that they can relive what was one the best trilogy ever. Do yourself a favor and pick up the originals, and forget this CGI loaded crap.

    Great Family Films

By Yahoo! Shopping User  Dec 4, 2002

These are two of the best films for families to view. Yes there is violence but no blood guts and gore as in so many movies these days. These films depict good triumphing over evil. No matter what all the nay sayers out there want you to believe these are 2 really wonderful entertaining films that every member of the family can watch. Some people don't like Jar-Jar Binks in episode one. Most if not all of those people simply do not have an imagination or the ability to simply suspend reality and enjoy a good film. Jar-Jar is hilarious for kids and I am one adult who also finds him entertaining. Episode 1 sets-up the entire rest ofd the Star Wars film line. Most people don't keep that in mind when they write a review. Ep.1 shows us where Anakin Skywalker (Luke's father) comes from and who his mother is. We also find out the origin of C3-PO in this film. Ep.1 also shows us the Jedi High Council for the first time! And we also see the venerable Obi-Wan Kenobi as a young Padawan.
Episode 2 builds on this shoeing us Obi-Wan as a full Jedi Knight with a teenage Anakin as his Padawan learner. We get to see where the anger that turns Anakin to the Darkside has it's beginnings. Ep.2 also reveals the beginnings of the Clone Wars and the downfal;l of the Republic. Ep.2 also gives us our first look at a full sscale Jedi battle. The end battle scenes are simply awesome. Probably the crowning achievement of Ep.2 is the CGI work in bringing Yoda to life and showing him in action with his lightsaber in the climactic end battle sequence. You have to see Yoda wielding a lightsaber it is simply fantastic!

Are y'all kidding? These movies are quite good...both of them...Do amy of you realize what it takes to produce a successful sequel...let alone a prequel?
Both films feature amazing special effects and digital quality as well as interesting stories (when viewed as part of a whole universe) some of the acting and dialouge isn't spectatular but over all...

Star Wars was great!..... for the past trilogy. The new ones are just painfully to watch. The dvds should be great for the features, video, and audio quality but not the movies itself. The covers are even horrible looking. It just shows how lazy some famous directors, producers, and designers have become.
