Of All the Star Trek Movies this is my favorite because it is closer to the original 1960s TV series then the other films. It even has Ricardo Montalban as Khan from the 1967's Space Seed episode! If you buy a Star trek DVD get this one firsT! This ...is a great Sci-fi epic! Can seem shallow but adds great sidebars on Kirk's personal life history. A straight ahead shoot-em up action flick in most respects. It works superbly on that level. For more character depth, check out #6. Lots of fun to watch, Montalban is superb! ...Really took me back in time to the original series-same feel and flavor. A fun entertaining film. Read more Less

This is really just a glorified episode of the tv series, but it has that terrific ending and a great villain, as well as the magnificent soundtrack. So I'm not complaining! "First Contact" is ten times better though.

Personally I feel that this movie is the best Trek movie of all time! It ties itself into the original series, has the best crew of any Star Trek series and the ultimate villian in Khan. Plus there are several space battles, photon torpodeos and pha...sers firing all over the place. The storyline is great and the acting is believable. This movie is as far as the Original crew of the Enterprise goes, the best one of all of the movies. And it follows up on a story that began in the television series. And you could not have found a better actor than Ricardo Montalban to play the role... of Khan. When it came to putting on a real believable performance, Ricardo threw his all into it. And I'm sorry that Shatner really didn't put that much into Kirk's persona. Though, the death of Spock at the end brought tears to my eyes. When it came to death scenes, that one really seemed too real. Read more Less

The movie itself is great! However I think Paramount needs to learn to take better advantage of DVD features if they are going to charge $25 or more for a DVD. I've paid less for DVD's that have had way more features. This one only has the film, one... preview, language selection, scene selection and sound options. Where are the audio commentaries, cast/crew info, etc? Read more Less

Not a Star Trek fan but a great movie

What makes this movie so good is that you need not know of Star Trek to understand the plot and enjoy the acting. One of the best Sci-Fi films I've seen.
