    Amazing EP

By Yahoo! Shopping User  Apr 21, 2005 | 2 out of 2 found this Star Is Dead review helpful

    Pros: Music and lyrics

Cons: I wish it had more songs on it

This release by The Higher is well worth buying. They have a truly unique sound that leaves their listeners wanting more. I was lucky enough to catch them live and was blown away by their energetic performance. I was impressed to hear that "Coup...les Skate Only" and "Black Sunday" sounded even better live. They even snuck in "Lo" and "Prepare For Something Else," new tracks from their full length album "Histrionics" to be released in May. If they come to your town be sure and check them out. You'll be glad you did! Read more Less

    Potential Unleashed

By Yahoo! Shopping User  Apr 20, 2005 | 1 out of 1 found this Star Is Dead review helpful

    Pros: Youthful exuberance, terrific songwriting

Cons: Still learning to give each other room

Star Is Dead was the name given to a bunch of songs that were shopped around by a bunch of 16-17 year old kids, that were, at the time, tearing up Vegas with original songs performed as Septemebr Star. Upon obtaining a record deal with a highly respe...cted indy label, Fiddler records, the songs were cleaned up and released as The Higher. Fittingly, the 5 song ep was released as Star Is Dead. Having wowed their local base, these young kids, soon to be men, went on the road and toured like madmen, going coast to coast, north to south, east to west. On the local music site in Vegas, they had at least 2, and usually 3 songs, in the top 5 for at least 3 months. they were young, and critics love to heap disdain on the young, but the fact remained that their base grew to love them and still do. so, here you have, "Star Is Dead". This is raw based rock, that some call punk, and a few call emo. I call it good music. The best tracks are Midnight and One For Hope. The guitars rock, and the singer is the real deal. There are lots of kids that call this one of their favorite eps, even to this day. The next one is esxpected to be the real big thing. Look for Histrionics real soon. Read about it on your favorite website, and you will see that the fans and critics all love this unkown band. Know them. Love them. Be Histrionic over them. But, by all means, Pace Yourself. The Higher

Las Vegas' the Higher formed in 2002, originally known as September Star, a highschool band consisting of vocalist Seth Trotter, drummer Pat Harter, guitarist James Mattison, and bassist Jason Centeno. Things got more serious the following year with the addition of second guitarist/vocalist Tom Oakes; the guys began playing locally and eventually recorded a demo compris... Read more
