Fox McCloud is back in action on GameCube, taking the Star Fox team on an epic quest to protect the galaxy from a new and powerful threat. In addition to the characterbased combat introduced in 2002's Star Fox Adventures, Star Fox 2 follows the groundwork established by the original Super NES and later Nintendo 64 game. Players will pilot the Arwing in space and above cities on a planet's surface as well as drive the Landmaster Tank. Fox can get out of the vehicle at any time to continue battles on foot, using a variety of weapons to defend cities under siege from the air and on the ground. Sniper rifles, bazookas, laser pistols, and more are available, as is the specialized help of crew Slippy Hare, Peppy Hare, and Falco Lombardi.

Star Fox 2 also includes a number of new characters that agree to fight alongside the Star Fox team, and players can even enlist their friends in a series of cooperative missions. Both players can go their separate ways using a traditional splitscreen format, or they can fight together with one player acting as a wingman to help shoot down foes. The latter option has one player's character literally riding atop a wing or side panel while the other player focuses on piloting or driving. Those not in a cooperative state of mind can engage up to three other likeminded individuals in an assortment of battle modes taking place in the air or on the ground.     Pros: Good graphics, movies, cool vehicles and weapons

    Cons: Controls are a bit hard to use; tank feels so clunky, and levels are fairly hard and frustrating.(you can control the settings though so that isn't really a problem

    Listen up if you truly want to know about this game before you buy it read this review CAREFULLY and read ALL of it before buying it. Star Fox Assault has great graphics and the sounds are pretty good. The plane u fly is awesome. Aerial combat is ju...st phenomenol; some of the best flying games I have ever played. However the ground combat is where things get pretty stupid and exaggerated. When walking around without a vehicle; things are fairly good. You pick up guns in missions and power-ups. The ground weapons are pretty good, ranging from machine guns to rocket launchers. However the tank, aka the landmaster, is really, really bad. The hovering sequence on it goes sooooooooo slowly and the tank itself is hard to maneuver through small spaces. Plus it's pretty slow. Whenever you use the tank you might think of why they even put the thing into the game. But this is bearable, and the tank isn't THAT bad once you get used to it. Like I said the flying part of the game is just absolutely AWESOME! The ground person shooter is alright; pretty good, but the tank could use some work. For all you fans of Star Fox and it's previous games (Star Fox 64, Star Fox Adventures) This game IS for you. For all of you who like air to air combat this game is somewhat for you; just race through the ground levels. I am enjoying this game very much. By the way it does have multiplayer which seems sort of dumb; but that goes for most multiplayer games. Read more Less

    Star Fox Assault is a great game for those who follow the Star Fox series and for the occasional gamer who wants some quick fun but probably won't interest hardcore gamers and/or people who want a really long and involved game. The graphics are b...etter than average but not stellar; ditto for music. The story/mission mode is far too short and can be easily completed in less than ten hours although the storyline is fairly entertaining. Missions themselves aren't really complex but are definitely fun while they last. The multitude of weapons and vehicles add lots of variety: blaster, machine gun, rocket launcher, grenades, mines, Gatling gun, sniper rifle, jet packs, motion-activated rockets, tanks, Arwings (air fighter), and Wolfens (air fighter), amongst a few others. Multi-player is pretty fun and extends the game's life span as long as you can find somebody else (or many people) to play along/against with you. In the end, it comes down to whether you are a die-hard Star Fox fan or want something to keep you entertained and busy for hours on end. But for $20.00; it's not a bad deal. Read more Less
