Spyro the Dragon makes his PlayStation 2 debut in a 3D platform game that finds the flying purple dragon on a quest to rescue a group of dragonflies scattered across nine worlds by resident rapscallion Ripto. Each world features ten missing dragonflies and up to 900 colored gems, which can be used to access new areas. As is the case with many 3D platform games, each of the included worlds varies in both theme and appearance, from the prehistoric Jurassic Jungle to the Asian-influenced Dragonfly Dojo. Ripto's dinosaur thugs freely roam about the worlds to prevent Spyro from advancing, but fortunately the dragon has more than a few moves under his wing to help tip the scales in his favor.

While fans of previous titles are familiar with Spyro's ability to charge, glide, hover, and head bash, he can now acquire new breath attacks to go along with his trademark fire. Bubble breath is needed to capture the mischievous dragonflies, which will try to dart away at the first opportunity. Electric breath is used to charge up items such as generators, while Ice breath enables Spyro to freeze enemies and then use them as stepping-stones. The resourceful dragon can also deflect projectiles by wrapping his wings around his head. Spyro isn't alone in his journey, either, and can call upon the help of trusted companions Sparx, the sorceress Bianca, and his personal trainer Hunter at certain points in the game.

The worlds in Spyro: Enter the Dragonfly also feature special challenges, such as sliding down a slippery slope or jumping across platforms in his quest to catch the remaining dragonflies. Vehicle levels let the dragon fire rounds from inside a tank, swoop across the air in a plane, use tractor beams inside a UFO, and explore the depths of the ocean while riding atop a manta ray. Also found within the realms are Time Trial and Obstacle Course races to test a player's flying skills. A complete record of achievements for each world is stored in the atlas, which is viewable at any time from the pause menu. ~ Scott Alan Marriott, All Game Guide

    what an average game

Just that, an average game. I love platformers like Sly Cooper and Ratchet & Clank (now those are some really good games!) and I was sadly disappointed. I just got a little bored. I want a game that is going to keep my attention!

    The best Game Ever!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

By :D  Dec 16, 2002 | 1 out of 1 found this Spyro: Enter the Dragonfly review helpful

Spyro Enter the Dragonfly is the best game I ever played. The Graphics are amazing, the gameplay is better than the first three Spyros put together, and the graphics are fantastic. If you havent played this game yet, I really think you should!!! The le...vels are really cool and each of them have their own unique setting. It is amazing having all the new breaths:fire, ice, electric, bubble, and Spyro even could make a sheild with his wings to block enemy attacks. It even has new challenge portals where you can help out friends. Throughout the game you also have to solve puzzles to get dragonflies. I really hope you get this game!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
