    SPY KIDS

By Yahoo! Shopping User  Sep 21, 2001 | 1 out of 1 found this Spy Kids (2001) review helpful

I am a big fan of Robert Rodriguez and Antonio Banderas so I was really looking forward to this movie.I was not disappointed. It's rare that a movie comes along that entertains children without insulting their intelligence and the grown ups will enjoy to.The movie has great action sequences, superb special effects and more stars giving great performances than any other movie I've seen this year.Funny, and heartwarming I would recommend this movie to anyone with children, without children, thinking about having children,or has only heard of children. The only thing that disappoints me is the lack of extras on the DVD.No directors commentary,No special edition extra scenes,No behind the scenes documentary,Nothing. Its a spy movie couldn't they have included something?

    Loved it!

By Yahoo! Shopping User  Sep 1, 2001

I took my son and since he had a couple friends with him, I sat in on the movie. I have to admit that I really wasn't looking forward to it at all but I LOVED it - even found myself laughing outloud.

A thoroughly enjoyable movie for the whole family.

Before I saw this movie I was a little skeptical but as it went on I found myself actually enjoying the adventure and having a few laughs. Though Antonio Banderas doesn't have a huge role I still enjoyed his performance and according to interviews so did he. which is always important.

this movie was okay. it wasn't the best though, i believe that kids like myself would actually rather see something like George of the Jungle.

    Good for Kids

By Yahoo! Shopping User  Mar 19, 2001

As far as kids movies go, this one's a lot of fun. I went to the premier this Sunday at Disneys California Adventure and was expecting little from what I thought would be another completely mindless kiddie flic with no real charm. Afterall, there seem to be a lot of those going around these days. Hollywood exec's who have forgotten what it means to be a kid end up sitting around trying to make a movie they can sell to younger audiences and in most cases what you get is boring, boring, boring... and stupid. This film is fun, fun, fun, and umn... stupid. But clever, imaginative, and I'll say it once more... FUN! I think the movie's G-rated - I believe the only time you hear a bad word is when one of the kids says, "Oh... Shitaki mushroom!" And there's very little violence - all of the fighting scenes are made to look very cartoony much like an old Roadrunner episode or something and involve scenario's that are far from reality. I doubt any kid after seeing this movie is going to attempt to beat their friends up by spinning them at one thousand RPM on a merry go-round like they do in this movie. Highly unlikely.

The underlying theme of the movie is almost pushy in it's family friendliness, stressing repeatedly that the hardest thing to do in life - even if your parents are world famous spies - is to keep a family together.

Even the bad guy in this film is almost likeable, though his plans for world domination
would lead you to believe otherwise. Everything in the film is kept at a very kid-friendly level which may turn off a lot of older audiences but once again, makes is a very fun kids movie.

That's what this is. Take your kids to see this movie, they'll like it a whole bunch, and you won't find yourself bored out of your mind thanks to a very imaginative script and some great editing and special effects. A lot of parents will get a kick out of the main villain. Imagine if Barney from Barney and Friends fame, or Mr. Rogers from Mr. Rogers neighborhood, or the Teletubbies - imagine if their secret plan was to someday change the entire world into what they had created as a TV show - a demented genius bent on making a world out of creatures with high pitched voices and funny faces, puffy clouds and creepy circus music. Fun, fun, fun. Oh... and watch out for the Thumb-Thumbs. I had nightmares about those guys. (you'll know what I'm talking about when you see the movie.)

Load the kids into the family car and take them to see Spy Kids, then take them to Mc Donalds to get their Spy Kids toy in their Spy Kids happy meal, and you'll be the coolest mom and dad in the whole wide world. Even if your spy techniques need some brushing up on.
