    This is one of the great albums in my opinion of the 1970's. Van Vliet is so much better to listen to than anything else of this time with the exception of Zappa. This is my favourite Beefheart album of the lot, Especialy with the added bonus of cle...arspot. The spotlight kid is the best part of the album. You can not categorise this album because of the different styles of music that can be herd within its makeup. Read more Less

    The good Captains' best work?

    Often mentioned as transition recordings from the Troutmask/Decals era towards a more acessable/commercial sound...these two albums could be seen as Dons' best. A tight and uniquely "hard rock" sound twisted with the off-beats of the Captains Magic ...Band. Soaring guitars, crucial drums. No other hard rock LPs ever sounded this contemporary, and where Spotlight is dark and brooding, ClearSpot is a blues shouter on Venus. Let them pass inbetween us. Read more Less
