Cons: would love to hear the drummer and bassist take off
I have heard of this power trio playing some of the Blues Festivals and clubs throughout North America. Ive been lucky enought to catch a few of their shows and they truly deliver a live rockin show. This CD is a great snap shot of how Kelly Richey plays a very passionate Strat. Her rhythm section keeps it rock solid. To really get the feel of this band see them live. Because of "Speechless'&q
uot; apparent minimal amount of overdubs, it does reflect well on what this band does on stage. "Speechless" is a worth while investment to your Blues collection. The Kelly Richey Band has been around for over a decade and this could be the most deserving launch they need to break into the upper tier of touring blues bands. ...

Pro Reviews: Speechless
| EXPERT RATING: From AMG Reviews Occasionally, on the Kelly Richey Band's allinstrumental album Speechless (get it? So have Albert Lee, Bruce Cockburn, and many other artists making vocalfree recordings.), sparks fly and you want to believe. This happens on "The Longest Road," on which bluesrock guitarist Richey's soaring, melodic lead lines escalate, change course, fly off someplace else and rise yet again. And it happens on "Only the Bird Knows," on which Richey takes to her acoustic guitar and deftly balances the instrument's inherent gentleness with serious rhythmic muscle. But mostly it just doesn't happen. For too much of Speechless, Richey and her rhythm section bassist Jimmy V and drummer David Clawson trod and plod. That is to say they trod on familiar territory (Stevie Ray Vaughan fans will often feel déjà vu) and plod through arrangements that never quite get off the ground. While the decision to make an instrumental album was a noble one indeed, the lack of vocals, rather than serve to draw attention to the musicians' proficiency or the properties of their interactions instead makes most of Speechless feel like backing tracks. Richey is obviously a talented guitar slinger, but she's lost for original ideas here. And the bassist and drummer are powerless to save her; drummer Clawson is particularly wooden throughout. It would not be surprising to learn that these same tunes have the potential to rile up a bar crowd, but the studio setting only points up the beenthereheardthat nature of the music. - Jeff Tamarkin, All Music Guide |

Pros: Great syncronisity of the band members..
Cons: what are those??
I first heard Kelly open for B.B. King at Riverbend several years ago..fell in love with her style then and have just been watching her grow in grace and talent. I try to catch all local shows(within 100 miles) as an avid fan. I truly enjoy the band members and find everyone to be exceptionally gifted with the love of music.Kelly has such a way with her playing that you can see it become an extension of her spirit. Full tilt and all heart and soul..Keep it rifting ..love to you guys..
