    Album rocked

    Pros: everything

    Cons: nixx

This album took two genres {punk and thrash} Chewed them up, cranked the tempo, and spat it into our faces. If it weren't for S.O.D. then Billy Milano wouldn't have started M.O.D.

    S.O.D - Speak English or Die! (1985)

By Yahoo! Shopping User  Mar 11, 2006

    Pros: Funny stuff....and hard......

    Cons: Nothing.....

Scott Ian's little side project that turned into a huge thing....with Anthrax roadie at the time Billy Milano on vocals, Dan Lilker on bass guitar (former Anthrax Bassist) and Charlie Benante on drums. Theres like 20 some songs here and nothing ...over like 2 minutes or so...a couple of the songs were ripped off for MTV's Headbangers ball in the 80's...most noteably "Milano Mosh" and "Chromatic Death"...There's alot of stuff here that WILL make certain people mad and cringe, but its really all tongue in cheek metal humor....if you cant get the joke then you dont really get it. Some standouts are "March of the SOD" "Kill Yourself" an anti suicide song....the above mentioned (Milano Mosh, Chromatic Death), the title song...."Milk" later covered by Anthrax, and of course "Ballad of Jimi Hendrix" which spawned the little 5-10 second ballads of dead musicians/celebrities in a funny tone...hence the 'Purple Haze' into and the infamous "YOUR DEAD"..... "Whats that Noise?" is pretty hilarious too...not a song but just 1 minute of everyone messing with Billy Milano making him mad to where he curses and leaves the studio.... Summing it up....The funny side of metal...but very hardcore and definatley important in metal's cannon...a must own for metal fans...get the remastered one with tons of bonus tracks and a live concert in Japan. Lives Up To Its Title

By Yahoo! Shopping User  May 24, 2000

S.O.D.'s Silver Platinum Edition of "Speak English Or Die" is totally killer. It lives up to the Silver Platinum Edition title. It starts off with the material from the original album, which you know is awesome, with an updated recording to make the... songs come out more. It has two new studio tracks; "Identity" and "Go", which both totally kick ass. Then come the live tracks from when they toured in Tokyo, Japan last year, which are performed very loud, proud, fast, heavy, and "coming at you". The live tracks could be enough to just blow somebody away. They also did a live medley of their on-line tracks when they're trying to see how fast they can perform them all back to back, then trying to break their record, which was hilarious. This LP is definitely worth buying, and it's a definite "must" for any S.O.D. fan. Let alone, it's a great collectors' item for any metal fan. Read more Less

Speak English or Die. Excellent album.

By Yahoo! Shopping User  Apr 13, 2000

Before the month of March, I wasn't an S.O.D. fan. Then, I saw them in concert and was converted immediately. This, their first album, is a great exercise in old-school thrash metal mixed with hardcore. When combined with amusing lyrical content, th...e result is an album that is absolutely fun to listen to. The bonus tracks on the platinum edition are, in my opinion, first-rate S.O.D. songs, especially "Identity." They prove what Billy Milano said: "you don't need a freakin' DJ or rap to still make a good metal record." In addition, the live tracks are a good indication of how much fun an S.O.D. show can be. If you haven't seen them yet, go now before all is lost! And make sure to pick up this record. For a fifteen year-old album, it's definitely a stronger effort than most "modern" metal bands are putting forth. Read more Less
