This set collects United Kingdom-produced pop and soul music that will doubtless be unfamiliar to most folks outside the UK. Originally released on Pye Records, these 30 tracks features rehashes of American soul like Leonard Whiting's "That's What Mama Say" (Walter Jackson); Bobby Rio's "Ask the Lonely" (the Four Tops); Jimmy James' "Ain't No Big Thing" (the Radiants); Doni Collins the Showband's "I Can't Help Myself" (the Four Tops); and Felder's Orioles' "Back Street" (Edwin Starr). Petula Clark's the only household name, and many of the artists fall in the blue-eyed soul category. The original songs are interesting, but not enough so to capture fans in the States.
