If you want a point and shoot digital camera, get one now!

    By Ron  Jun 15, 2003 | 38 out of 38 found this Sony Cyber-shot DSC-P72 review helpful

What else could you possibly ask for in a point and shoot digital camera? It gives mostly great pictures in auto mode (every camera made spits out a bad pic now & then, mainly in adverse lighting conditions). It also has a few limited manual controls... and an excellent macro (close-up) mode. The length of mpeg movies are only limited by the size of your memory stick. (A lot of Digicams limit you to a couple of minutes no matter how much memory you have installed). The included 16mb stick will give you 10 pics (at highest resolution), or about 45 seconds of a mpeg movie. I got a 128m stick which yields 82pics or about 5 minutes of video. I have shot about 80 pics (and downloaded them to my computer using the cameras batteries) and there's still quite a bit of juice left. Recommended accessories: At least a 64mb memory stick and an extra set of batteries. If you want an easy to use point & shoot digital that yields great pics (up to 8 X 10) then go out and buy this camera now!! Read more Less

    Grainy Pictures

    By han  Aug 27, 2003 | 19 out of 24 found this Sony Cyber-shot DSC-P72 review helpful

Bought this camera as an alternative to Canon A70. Disappointment. In anything lower than bright sunlight, the images are all grainy. Solid Red, Green and Blue are very sharp, but any other colour looks as if mixed using a bad spray paint nozzle. Gra...ins of blue green and red can clearly be made out. I dont want this quality in the actual picture size of a 3.2m pixel. I compared mine with images taken by a canon A70. The canon's images were soft, but even in artificial light, indoors, there were no grainy pics. It had better colour contrast than the sony images which tends to over saturate the reds.Otherwise it is such a good camera to use. Easy controls. Cool shape. Nice and easy to use features. Great movie capability.Sony made a great package, but forgot that a camera is supposed to take great pictures first. Then come other things. Read more Less

    A Worthwhile Purchase

By Alan and Marilyn Weatherhead  Jun 27, 2003 | 14 out of 15 found this Sony Cyber-shot DSC-P72 review helpful

I purchased this product at Sydney Airport. My recent round the world price comparison checked out favourable regarding the price paid.I found the camera easy to operate particularly if you try to master one feature at a time. Then the next day pract...ise something else and soon you are using this camera like a pro.The results are perfect with sharp clear pictures on the laptop and in hard copy form.I reckon two 128 memory chips would be ideal. One for stills and one for movies. I also purcahsed an extra set of batteries which are definately needed. One incident in New York - I was on top of the open decked bus, in the rain when the bus braked heavily in traffic. Out popped the camera from my pocket to the floor. Oh No - then as I reached down, a wall of water flooded over my prized possesion. Surely it's ruined. But no - it still works fine. Thanks Sony, for the usual standard of quality we have come to expect from you. This one's good - I guarantee. Read more Less

    Great Camera

    By Stephen  Jun 3, 2003 | 11 out of 11 found this Sony Cyber-shot DSC-P72 review helpful

This camera is just wonderful. The automatic features are superb...anybody can take GREAT pictures with this camera. And it can be manual as well. Many features, including B&W, sepia tone, negative, and solarize make for great additions. Takes great ...pics at night too and wonderful close-ups. Be sure to buy a bigger memory stick though, only comes with a 16MB. Highly recommend this camera. Read more Less

    Light Price

    By Jaharra  Jun 3, 2003 | 9 out of 10 found this Sony Cyber-shot DSC-P72 review helpful

This is my third digital camera after purchasing a Fuji five years ago. Then a HP a few years back. Compared to the Sony, the Fuji is bulky and outdated. The HP crapped out. For the price this is a loaded camera.I just purchased mine last week, and a...m still learning all that this sweet little camera offers. After the initial setup I shot a few pictures that came out crisp and clear. The video with sound feature is a great touch for capturing those really special moments. They can also be emailed or saved to a disk if you have a cd burner. I also purchased a 128mb memory stick, a memory stick reader, a few extra rechargable batteries, and a memory stick case. Since I plan to purchase more memory sticks in the near future to take along on an upcomming vacation it was a necessity. Novice and advanced users will the enjoy the ease of point and shoot, or tweaking the settings for that perfect shot. All in all I love this camera and cant wait to use it for all those summer moments. Read more Less

I love my little digital camera. We take it on vacation, no extra film only batteries and charger with a couple of extra memory sticks. We take the sticks to Wal-Mart and develope our prizes and BOOM there they are no more fighting with 13 rolls of f...ilm in a carry on bag! Read more Less

    Cool Cam

    By Bugs  Jun 3, 2003 | 7 out of 8 found this Sony Cyber-shot DSC-P72 review helpful

The Sony P72 is my first Digi-Cam and has worked out to be wonderful. The most i like about this Cam is its email mode in which one can take pictures in any resolution and the Cam makes a copy of same picture in low res which is easy to email and sha...re it with your friends and family. Also for better performance i use the camera in 1.2 MP mode. 3.1MP pictures eats up a lot of space. Will not advice anyone to pictures in VGA mode.Cheers Read more Less

Great Camera for a great price

    By Kyle  May 12, 2003 | 6 out of 6 found this Sony Cyber-shot DSC-P72 review helpful

I was looking for a camera around $300 and this ended up being my perfect match. Depending on where you find it, prices range from $280-330. With 3.2MP, that is enough for any photographer. It also has videos with sound, a big bonus. Look out though,... only Sony products will work with their memory sticks, but I think they work great. I reccomend a 128mb card if you plan on using video. The only problem with this camera is sometimes pictures are a little dark, but thats about all. Read more Less

    Great Camera!

    By jyted  Aug 25, 2003 | 4 out of 4 found this Sony Cyber-shot DSC-P72 review helpful

This is a wonderful point-and-shoot camera. I use the 2.0M mode and fotos are really good and clear. Movie mode is excellent and it's best to have at least a 128MB card ready. Easy to use. Long battery life. Impressive!
