    Sony dslr a100

    By Laura  Mar 9, 2009

    Pros: easy to use features

Cons: digital noise at high iso

Overall I am quite happy I purchased this Dslr. Being a beginner it's a great starter camera. It's really easy to use after reading the manual. The only key problem I found was the digital noise showing up in my shots when using 800 iso and up. Since I primarily take daylight shots that doesen't bother me a whole lot. I may upgrade to one of the newer sony's though. I also like that we can use Minolta lenses with it which is cheap and better for my wallet. I rate this camer and A-

    Middle level camera

    By daniel  Feb 10, 2009

Pros: very sharp images, vivid colours, good white balance, fast, mechanically solid, small, lightweight

Cons: a noticeable level of noise above 800 ISO. a bluish tone.

i personally tested this camera for almost 2 years in all conditions, around minus 7 - 8 dec Celsius, and around pluys 40 - 45 deg Celsius. i tested for sport fotography, race images, bird watching, wildlife, in rain, in low light, indoors, with telephoto lens and extra wide. I use it mostly at continuuos shooting, at very fast shutter speeds. If you appreciate sharpness and clear pictures, and you shoot mostly in sunny days, this is your camera and good light. it is also very adequate for fast action shots, photojournalism, and documentary, because it is not so big and heavy. It feel quite solid and being made of polycarbonate plastic. if you take picture of flowers beware that it has a slight bluish tonality.

    Great camera, incredible technology

By john  Nov 27, 2008 | 1 out of 1 found this Sony a (alpha) DSLR-A100 review helpful

Pros: Access to unique Minolta lenses, durable construction, ease of use

Cons: Zeiss lenses are WAY overpriced, slow multiframe rate, CCD noise

Like many former Minolta users, I was anxious to see what Sony would do with the technology. The Alpha 100 is the first of a series of cameras based on Minolta designs, and is not that different from previous Minolta designs. The build quality is excellent, position of controls sensible, and the overall operation smooth and natural after just a short acclimation period. New owners must discover the many modes of metering and auto focus to learn the most appropriate mode for the subject at hand. The Sony manual is clear and concise, but nothing beats a few hours of practice before you first real shoot.
I bought the two lens kit (second lens was free) and while not disappointed, I must say the 'cheap' lenses are not very good. You will want to shop for a third party lens as soon as possible. If you can get the camera body alone, do so.

The imager on this camera is somewhat noisy at higher ISO numbers, but you can control these settings.

Super Steady Shot is Sony's image stabilization system, which is located in the camera body, vs in the individual lenses like Nikon and Canon. This keeps lens prices down, and durability way higher. As long as you have a minimum aperture of 4 you should be ok. With a very steady hand, I was able to grab a 4 -second- time exposures, -hand held-. Very impressive.

The A100 has been superseded by newer models, but it is still a great camera.

    Alpha A100 A1

By Yahoo! Shopping User  Feb 8, 2008

Pros: Great image quality, Easy to use, Excellent value for money

    Cons: Haven't found any.

Did my research and looked at each and every DSLR on the market before settling on the A100. It has to be said that this is THE BEST camera I've ever owned. I was blown away by the simplicity and ease of use of the A100. The image quality is amazing and the actual camera layout is great. The menus are simple and easy to understand. The features of the camera are fantastic. I'm just so happy with it. I would advise beginners and professionals to check this camera out....... you won't be disappointed. There just aren't enough hours in the day for me to use it!!!!!!!!

    Bang for your buck

By JayK  Dec 30, 2007 | 2 out of 2 found this Sony a (alpha) DSLR-A100 review helpful

Pros: All the electronics are in the body CMOS etc so you can use ole AF Minolta lenses.

Cons: High ISO noise and slow low temp performance.

Love this body since all of the electronics are in the body and older Minolta af lenses work well. Much more intiutive controls than the Canons and Nikons. Someone I think Olympus is boosting about a veiwing LCD but I can't see the benifit with an SLR at all, imagine holding an SLR away from you and peering into and LCD screen and keeping your camera steady, pure BS. Had my alpha 100 for about a year and love it ofcourse I am biased since I have been a Minolta man for more that 35 years. By the way a Tamron 28 -200 lens is a great ever day lens for the alpha.

    Awesome camera

    By Larry  Nov 25, 2007

Pros: Easy to use sand great picture quality

Cons: A little bulky - but so are most slr cameras

I purchased this camera just before heading overseas on a trip. I can't say that I did heaps of research. It was a fairly impulsive choice - but I am absolutely wrapped in the camera. It turns an average photographer into a much better one.

    First DSLR

    By Joshua  Nov 19, 2007

    Pros: Everything!

Cons: Dust seems to get in a little too easy.

This is my first DSLR and after using a normal SLR I found the change was really easy and I got into my camera right away. Of course the settings and everything are a lot more different I found the switch to be a complete breeze with the Alpha. I've tried out my friends canon and nikon DSLR's before and frankly I just don't like them very much. The Alpha is a great camera!
