    If you think of buying any one item of the PCG-GR* computers... DON'T. My SONY 'PCG-GRX580' was one of biggest disappointments to date in SONY's statement to quality. Let's see, where does one start... One week after owning it,... I wiped my keyboard down (damp cloth, light pressure) to may amazement, letters S,D,F,G,R,C,V popped off. Let's just say that I had to learn micro-mechanics/robotics if I ever wanted to ever type again (forgive me if any of the above mentions letters are missing in my review, sometimes they work, sometimes they don't). The ethernet port on the rear of the laptop, has such a poor connector (ie., tremendous play) that network connections drop just by looking at the cable.Finally, the hard drive, this thing clicks and clacks let a railcar going down the tracks. I've looked for drivers; none, at other computers with the same drive; silent as a baby sleeping. Finally, a note to the designers of the case. Supply a paper clip so opening the side/rear access panel can be possible since there is no place big enough to place anything to open these panels... I pry mine open mine with one.     I have owned this laptop for a little over a year now and am still going strong. I use this for very extensive power point programs as well as for creating editing DVD's, etc. and just love it. Good product with great performance.

    I bought a vaio laptop and trying to backup all files and suddenly after reading 2 cd's my cd-writer stop writing error cannot read cd....try another blank cd and start all over again and again backing up all files.. and i feed up and call costom...er service how to get backup recovery cd... hey you need to order it and pay not much.. but why....     Cons: Over heats and shuts down

    This computer is 9 months old. Started out OK then got slower and slower. Would shut down in the middle of runningany processor demanding program. Now I can't even run the full system scan in Norton Anti Virus with out it overheating and shuting ...its self down.This is not uncommon for this model at least according to aGoogle search. Sony should recall these machines.Very disapointed with this product. HELLO is anybody listening? Read more Less

    Who needs a desk top anymore? Lightening quick, user friendly, great Sony software, there is nothing more I can say. The fan does get a bit loud but is tolerable. Sony is starting to become the computer leader!

    Pros: Good Value.

    Cons: Technically, I think there is a problem with Overheating.

    My laptop overheated and I had to return it three times before they eventually gave me a different (newer) model.

    Pros: nice looking design, not bad power, light weight

    Cons: OVERHEATS, max resolution (1024x786) - too low

    In general this would be a good machine, if not for the annoying problem of overheating. I run math intensive, CPU consuming programs during which the laptop overheats and shuts down. With time the problem got noticebly worse - the laptop started to ...shut down even during regular tasks like watching a DVD movie, or (damn!) during simple Internet browsing. I had to send it to Sony for repair. After repair, it stopped shutting down, but the fan always works at its most intensive mode, generating the sound louder than my 6 fan double CPU destop. The sound is so lound that I am embarassed to turn it on in public, for example during my college class.I cannot recommend it for people to buy. Consider IBM's ThinkPad laptops - they are very strudy, quite, have good screen resolution, and run for years without problems. Sony should stay away from the area where they have no expertise and stick to TV and Video. Read more Less
