Bootm line, the PCG-F430 is truly all in one....the inclusion of the firewire...or IEEE1394 connection is the kicker. To have this connection alone in any DEll or Gateway would cost you twice as much as the F430....Compaq and HP only include this connector on their desktop machines. If you have a miniDV camera, you want this connection for video and image capture. Great display and the hard drive is quick...you pay more for a samller drive that has optimum speed vice a 10GB drive that would be slower. Economical with your file stroage and you can see the benefits of this system....the fast PIII-450 processor is a bonus. I loved this machine....that's why I purchased another Sony down the line.

I looked at several notebooks before deciding on the Sony F430 and I'm still very happy with it. It has a real modem and a useable keyboard to go along with it's bright 14.1 inch display. A larger Hard drive would have been nice and why this (relatively smalll) 6 gig HD is configured into two partitions excapes me. Overall it's quite nice at a good price.
