    Pros: fast, screen size, graphics

    Cons: silly screen lock

looked for awhile before buying a replacement for my compaq. I was ready to spend some big bucks on a dell XPS or allienware but a friend advised me that i shouldnt spend no more than $700 for a great laptop. I did go over $700 for the vaio but it ha...d everything that i was looking for and i didnt have to go custom. Bestbuy was $50 cheaper than circuitcity! (i payed less than the prices quoted above) Sweet justice because I waited in circuitcity for 35 min. and nobody would even greet me. I went to bestbuy! I guess they were tired from christmas. The only things i have a problem with are the hoops you have to jump through to get the windows vista and the screen lock that jumps out at the weirdest times. It should have a positive lock. Pros: Fast and Powerful, Excellent Display and Lightweight

Cons: Cheap exterior, keys bend and paint comes off easily.

When I was shopping for a computer, I was looking for a PC that was well rounded and affordable (and Vista ready). When I purchased my Fe770g I was extremely impressed. The computer ran smooth without any hiccups or errors. I loved the media center p...ackage and the brightness of the screen. The PC was great for movies because of the crystal clear LCD and the relatively strong stereo sound. Not till I really started fooling with it did I find some of it's fatal flaws. My biggest complaint about the Fe770g is the poor quality of its keyboard. Within three weeks of purchase, my 'n' key broke off while I was typing (The customer support was excellent!). And not soon after, the paint on the mute key began to flake away (a problem a lot of customers are having). I also noticed that the PC had an extremely short battery life, usually lasting a maximum of two hours (3 or 4 if you do everything to conserve battery life). The battery also has a tendency to rattle a bit if you're carrying the PC. I must say though, the keys are large and extremely easy to type with, a major pro had they not been made of flimsy plastic. For you gamers, this is probably not the PC you want to buy. While it can run games like The Sims 2, and Age of Empires III (all on lowest graphics settings), you may run into many compatibility problems with your video card. I tried to run Command and Conquer 3, but within minutes the games crashes. Sure, if your into games like the classic Rollercoaster Tycoon, you'll be fine, as for games with advanced lighting, shading, and models, you may want to consider investing more time into your decision. I was extremely disappointed with the installed Norton Antivirus trial, which I immediately uninstalled, however, most of the provided software is useful and innovative. The wireless card is excellent, it picks up signals that are within 500 feet, at most. I considered buying a booster later on however. The computer runs great even with programs like AIM, iTunes, MSN Live Messenger, Limewire, and so on. And I have noticed increased speed using Firefox products. The built in camera is a con as well. It is extremely immoble, seeing as it is built into the screen. You can only move it up and down, otherwise you have to turn your whole computer. The camera takes medium quality photos. I would never say they are excellent. One of my favorite things about the Fe700g is its media capabilities. The DVD is nice, but there is a built in memory card slot, Memorystick slot and a video port to hook your computer up to a big screen TV to watch your favorite movies. The microphone quality is excellent as well. The number of USB ports is really low. With a staggering total of...not 6, not 5, not even 4, but only 3, ports. You Dell veterans will be happy to know that this machine stays relatively cool, but it can begin to heat up when its sitting on your lap at the airport. Size wise, the Fe770g is slim, sleek and lightweight, making it easy to slip into a backpack. All in all I would recommend this PC to: 1. College Students 2. Business Men 3. Small Business 4. Family Use 5. High School Student 6. Myspace Kids 7. Older folks (Large Keys) But not to: 1. Gamers 2. Developers 3. Bodybuilders 4. People with large fingers. 5. People who smash their keys when they type. 6. Really fast typers. Hope I could be of help. My Vaio has been pretty useful. It's a great bargain. 1300 dollars gets you a fast, reliable PC, with decent graphics and an excellent view. Read more Less

    Beware

By Yahoo! Shopping User  Dec 30, 2006 | 6 out of 6 found this Sony VAIO FE770G review helpful

    Pros: Functional Full Featured Machine

    Cons: Sony Service is Horrible

I've owned 4 Sony Machines - 2 Laptops and 2 Desktops... NO MORE! though the desktops were OK. Overall they are a nicely designed machines UNTIL something breaks. However Sony service is HORRIBLE!!! Both laptops had problems after about 1.5 years.... Repair time took over 30 days in both cases (they have a parts distribution problem)... and others I know have had the same experience. So bottom line... if you depend on your laptop pick another brand. Read more Less

The Sony VAIO gives Power for on the Go

By Yahoo! Shopping User  Mar 12, 2007 | 4 out of 4 found this Sony VAIO FE770G review helpful

Pros: Light, slim, plenty of storage and power, one year manufacturer's "limited" warranty

Cons: This notebook measures 14.4 x 10.8 x 1.4 inches (WxDxH) and weighs 6.2 pounds

The Sony VAIO VGN-FE770G Notebook looks good, is very slim and designed well. The performance is good, but I feel like AMD still has an advantage over Intel when it comes to speed for the Internet, gaming and complex graphics. The notebook is easy to... use, especially the built-in mouse pad, even though when possible I like to plug in a regular 3-button mouse. Included is a copy of Microsoft’s Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005 with Update Rollup 2 and WinDVD, Roxio DigitalMedia SE, Sony software suite, plus more. Also included for a 60-day trial period is Microsoft Works 8.5 and Norton Internet security. The media edition is geared more for gaming and music, but can be used in the business world. Microsoft works is a basic of Microsoft office, good for the home user, but I do prefer MS office myself. Roxio is all right, but here again I prefer Nero for my media burning and listening pleasures. Gaming is great with plenty of speed and performance; I do recommend an outside set of speakers for a better sound and a plugged in mouse for better control. Video performance form a DVD provide excellent picture quality, with an added speaker system the sound is awesome. Without an added speaker system, movies just seem to have too much treble sound, which takes away from the movie action. Internet surfing is smooth on broadband with good color and clarity. The battery is rated at 5.4 hours, well at about 5 hours the notebook warned me that it needed to be recharged; I played with it for about 15 more minutes before it died on me. It wasn’t too far off; it took over 4 hours to fully recharge. The built-in camera does a fair job, nothing special, about like any low cost add-on camera. The built-in microphone does a fair job; there is a port to add an external microphone. There is also a port for connecting a set of headphones. The DVD reader/ writer worked flawlessly, I burned a couple of DVD-R and CD-R discs without any problems. The player read my save MP3 files without problems and they sounded great! The hard drive is a little slow, but with 120MB of storage, it should have plenty of space for all your needs. Overall I would recommend this notebook because of the storage space, descent speed performance and a beautiful colorful screen that give you life like with movies. This is a nice notebook for the home and office. Read more Less
