I grew to love having the TiVo Recorder. I had one problem with the unit and lived with it - It did not always change the channel as I instructed it to do. I had programs put on season pass so they would be automatically recorded and I could forget... about it - Sometimes it would record other programs since it did not change channel properly. I received some help from Tech support but this did not solve the problem, and it was getting worse. After I had the unit for one year, Sony Tech support would not help any further even though I had a case number. The TiVo system is great, I can watch what I want, when I want. If I arrive to watch a show 15 minutes late, no problem, I can watch the beginning of the show and blash through the commercials. I have really come to love the TiVo. It truly saves time and makes TV watching on my schedule. The picture was a little grainy. I recorded at the best or second best level which allowed 9 to 11 hours of recording, not the 30 hours as advertised. I was always trying to keep up with my TiVo to wathc shows before they were erased. You can save shows if needed! Also there is a nice feature to send a recoding over to VCR.The Tech support of Sony for this machine was not very good. And then my machine dies after 14 months. No longer under Warranty. I found out some of the components are not good quality and modem in partticular is low quality. I had to pay $14.95 for tech support to be told that I need to get a new TiVo unit. So that is the cost of purchasing this Sony unit. $400 for 1 to 2 years worth of service. And bad tech support. At the same time I need a new TiVo machine - I am hooked on TiVo and am looking at my alternatives. Read more Less
