    DVD - I fixed it

By Yahoo! Shopping User  Feb 3, 2007

    Pros: Not Many

    Cons: Crumy DVD player

99% of the time a DVD player quits working because dust gets on the lazer lens. Usually this requires taking it apart and cleaning the lens. I "fixed" mine by turning the player up on it's dide, giving it a few good whacks, and shaking it. You might make yours work by giving it a thump while the disk is still in therebut it won't work. You're basically knocking the dust loose off the lens. Keep your player, especially this model, in a dust free environmen. Unles youlike banhing it.I know I do. Not a very good product.

    Is not durable

By Yahoo! Shopping User  Jan 24, 2007

Pros: Nice combo unit; good looking

Cons: Did not last! DVD player quit after 2 years

The DVD player slowly just stopped playing DVD's until tonight it no longer works!

    Tape player is just fine.

Also, we had to replace the remote after just 1 year and no universal remote was acceptable.

Not a good value and very disappointing for a Sony.

Freezes up after 1 hr of watching DVD

By Yahoo! Shopping User  Mar 18, 2006

    Pros: None

Cons: DVD side freezes 1 hr into movie

Shortly after purchasing this hunk-o-junk, DVD video breaks up and eventually freezes until the unit is allowed to cool.

    Be Warned!

By Yahoo! Shopping User  Feb 4, 2006

Pros: Played our DVD-R and DVR+R disks

Cons: Only played DVDs for 7 months

Ok, I usually do not critque products, but this DVD Player was poorly designed! Our company, (YAPP, INC, parent company of the ISYL fashion company), was in the middle of a fashion shoot. After each shoot, we create DVDs for the models to take back with them to their city or country. After creating the DVDs, we put thm into the DVD Player to show the models what they were getting, and as many here have said before, we received an error that something was wrong with the disks. First, we re-created all of the DVDs, thinking something was indeed wrong with the disks. We tried several writeable disks, and even tried movies that we had recently purchased. Nothing would play. The VCR worked fine, but who uses VCRs?

This is the second DVD player we've purchased from Sony, and this is the second time the player has become defective. I guess it is time for us to stop giving our money away!

    VERY Disappointed

By Yahoo! Shopping User  Dec 25, 2005

    Pros: None

    Cons: DVD portion went.....

I'm weighing in here to warn buyers of this DISAPPOINTMENT!!!! As other reviewers have said, I too spent a little extra and bought this model thinking "SONY -- It will last". Boy was I wrong. The DVD portion quit on me about 9 mos after purchase. The message on the screen tells me there's something wrong with the disk. Funny, the same disk plays fine when I put it in a $50.00 KLH model I bought.(still going strong after nearly 2 years BTW). WOW!!!
The old add should be renamed
    "SONY -- nothing but BALONEY"

    Piece of Junk

By Yahoo! Shopping User  Oct 15, 2005

    Pros: VCR works

    Cons: DVD does not work

Bought this as a gift for my parents. The DVD portion stopped working one week after the 90 day warranty expired. Freezes up. Will not read DVD. No picture. Called Sony and they stated they had no complaints for this model. Customer service not supportive. Sony will not stand behind this product. Will not buy from Sony again in the future.

    They're all broken

By Yahoo! Shopping User  Sep 15, 2005

    Pros: Great when it worked

Cons: It stopped working after 5 months

I know at least three other people who have purchased this combo player and everyone's broke after the worthless--short--90 day warranty. I heard that over 54,000 people sent in letters of complaint on the slv models and nothing, no recall or anything has been made. Sony has been silent. you can't even research the product at Sony.com, it's no longer in their archives. I will never buy Sony again, not because I expect them to continue to make junk, but because they did not assume any responsibilty.

    Another Broken DVD Player

By Yahoo! Shopping User  Aug 19, 2005

    Pros: Nice Looking, good features

    Cons: Doesn't Work

I bought this thing about 2 months ago and tonight I put a dvd in it and it will not read it. I tried others that had played before and it will not read any of them now. I think It may have something to do with all of this copyright protection programming. It happened that I had a recordable tape in(My babies ultrasound) when I put the dvd that broke it in and when it froze it was on the copyright page.
So, stop worrying about people stealing crap and just make a good product...let the police do their job

    Garbage

By Yahoo! Shopping User  Aug 8, 2004 | 18 out of 19 found this Sony SLV-D350P review helpful

    Pros: Nice shiny silver color

Cons: DVD player is a joke, expensive

I bought this because I have loved Sony products in the past and needed a combo deck. Wow. What a dissapointment this thing is. Actually no, what a piece of garbage this thing is.

Problem 1: The channel tuner gets all weird sometimes and will require you to power cycle the unit to get it to recognize a cable signal, if you don't power cycle it, you just get snow.

Problem 2: The unit even comes with a sticker that boasts that it is DVD-R and DVD+R compatible. Yeah right. I can't get this to play either one and I have tried probably a dozen different brands of DVD media. Why are they marketing this as compatible with writeable media when it just simply cannot play them? My six year old Pioneer DVD player plays recorded DVDs better then this hunk of junk.

Problem 3: Extremely sensitive DVD player....if you DVD has just the tiniest scratch on it, be forewarned, you are in for a frusturating movie night. I am not joking. Literally the tiniest scratch makes this thing freeze up and skip like crazy.

Problem 4: Tech support...as with most companies these days, Sony seems more concerned about getting you to buy the product then supporting their poorly designed junk. The sony.com webpage doesn't even acknoledge that this product even exists and a email to their tech support gets the expected canned response "we're sorry about the problem. Please ship the unit to our warranty department so they can hang on to it for a couple weeks and ship it back and you'll still have the same problems!" Well, they didn't say that exactly, but you get the point.

My advice: stay far away from this hunk of trash. Buy a seperate VCR and DVD player as pretty much all of these combo decks from every manufacturer are pretty much just as bad.

    Shame on you Sony, shame.
