    Garbage

By Yahoo! Shopping User  Aug 8, 2004 | 18 out of 19 found this Sony SLV-D350P review helpful

    Pros: Nice shiny silver color

Cons: DVD player is a joke, expensive

I bought this because I have loved Sony products in the past and needed a combo deck. Wow. What a dissapointment this thing is. Actually no, what a piece of garbage this thing is. Problem 1: The channel tuner gets all weird sometimes and will require... you to power cycle the unit to get it to recognize a cable signal, if you don't power cycle it, you just get snow.Problem 2: The unit even comes with a sticker that boasts that it is DVD-R and DVD+R compatible. Yeah right. I can't get this to play either one and I have tried probably a dozen different brands of DVD media. Why are they marketing this as compatible with writeable media when it just simply cannot play them? My six year old Pioneer DVD player plays recorded DVDs better then this hunk of junk.Problem 3: Extremely sensitive DVD player....if you DVD has just the tiniest scratch on it, be forewarned, you are in for a frusturating movie night. I am not joking. Literally the tiniest scratch makes this thing freeze up and skip like crazy.Problem 4: Tech support...as with most companies these days, Sony seems more concerned about getting you to buy the product then supporting their poorly designed junk. The sony.com webpage doesn't even acknoledge that this product even exists and a email to their tech support gets the expected canned response "we're sorry about the problem. Please ship the unit to our warranty department so they can hang on to it for a couple weeks and ship it back and you'll still have the same problems!" Well, they didn't say that exactly, but you get the point. My advice: stay far away from this hunk of trash. Buy a seperate VCR and DVD player as pretty much all of these combo decks from every manufacturer are pretty much just as bad. Shame on you Sony, shame. Read more Less

    DVD - I fixed it

By Yahoo! Shopping User  Feb 3, 2007

    Pros: Not Many

    Cons: Crumy DVD player

99% of the time a DVD player quits working because dust gets on the lazer lens. Usually this requires taking it apart and cleaning the lens. I "fixed" mine by turning the player up on it's dide, giving it a few good whacks, and shaking ...it. You might make yours work by giving it a thump while the disk is still in therebut it won't work. You're basically knocking the dust loose off the lens. Keep your player, especially this model, in a dust free environmen. Unles youlike banhing it.I know I do. Not a very good product.
