This is by far the best digital camera i've seen. The sharpness and quality of the photos is superb. What it doesn't come with you can add on! Like a viewfinder or extra lenses for wide angle or close up. Very versitile for today's profes...sional photographer or artist! Read more Less

Pros: a little bit slow

Cons: makes great pictures! very sharp! CD-RW much better than memory cards

i'm still worried about how stable the cd-burner is, after all Sony Mavica series are not the mainstream (or not yet) on the market. what makes me choose this one are: 1, 5 megapix; 2, carl zeiss lens; 3, very interesting way of using 3" cd ...instead of traditional memory cards. and a lot of cheaper to get CD-RW or CD-R. I used to use a Nikon N50, but just found this Mavica can take very sharp pictures. Anyway, i love it! Read more Less

Pros: Excellent results in all areas

Cons: A bit slow with disk writing at times

This is our third digital camera and by far the best! We wanted a 5 megapixel camera that didn't rely on expensive memory cards. The Sony Mavica was the perfect choice! Although Sony mini-CDs are expensive, Imation & Verbatim both make much cheap...er versions that can be bought in local department stores (works out less than a cent per Mb!!!). We've taken over 1200 photos since October 2003 (when we purchased it) and the only duds (very few) were our fault! The camera also takes great night photos - we went around taking photos of Xmas lights and they came out wonderfully clear. Hubby tries to use all of the available modes but there is a "point & click" mode that I usually take advantage of and it produces superb photos without any fancy settings! You can fit between 70 & 90 five megapixel photos on a non-Sony mini-CD. If you don't want to print the photos, use a lower resolution (eg 1.2 megapixel) and you can fit over 400 photos on a disk!In summary, a great camera for anyone... Read more Less

I found this camera to be easy to use with, for a novice, almost Too many options - Not that that's a bad thing.The pictures it takes are awesome and the video is a lot better quality than I'd expected it to be.Over all I have to say I am mor...e than pleased with the purchase and would recommend it to anyone, though I'd suggest they shop around to get the lowest price before they purchase it...Unlike I did...since the Mavica can get a bit on the expensive side.Oh yeah, you some of those mini discs are up over 180 meg now, another plus. Probably the most convenient feature is the use of mini-cd's versus rather expensive memory sticks of limited storage. You can shoot almost unlimited shot with the cd and these are much easier to give to others to use on their machines than a mem...ory stick. Read more Less

Pros: UNBEATABLE STORAGE MEDIUM

Cons: Optional viewfinder cover should come standard

I don't know why anyone would want a memory stick when they could burn their pictures directly to a CD. Fill up the disk and..........put in another disk for 200 more pictures or 7 1/2 minutes of movie with sound. It doesn't get any better!

What a great idea! Had to buy mine on line since the electronics stores are not keeping them in stock. I'm assuming they want to sell cameras that require expensive memory cards. Viewing the CD was a snap. Some say the size is bulky, for me it is... like a real camera. Feels good in my hands. The zoom could be better but we have options for add ons so I don't consider this an issue. The VGA video looks and sounds good, have not tried the 'mail' setting but supposedly you can get up to 89 minutes of movie in that mode. I have not explored all the features of this camera but I am definitely looking forward to it....like enjoying a 9 course dinner! Read more Less

Cons: slow between pics

I bought mavica500 camera for my web site. I could take pics and video clips to insert without having to download, store and blah blah. The mini-cd is all there. But as oppose to the conventional SLR camera, I can't take rapid photos such as mod...el shoots. It's fraustrating when I have to pause the model for the red light to go off for the next photo. But man, the photos are awesome!!! The camera is genious. Thanks Sony for making my life easier.---lowe Read more Less
