OK for DJ's, not for audiophiles.

By Yahoo! Shopping User  Aug 31, 2002 | 7 out of 8 found this Sony MDR-V700DJ review helpful

The Sony MDR-V700DJ headphones are made for DJ mixing, not for music listening; the severely colored, overboosted mid-bass with practically no deep bass and the recessed midrange and harsh treble make for listening fatigue after just minutes of liste...ning to them. And the MDR-V700DJ headphones aren't as durable as their intended use would imply; the plastic covering the swivel joints is prone to breakage after just a few months of light use. And the only way to fix those joint covers is to replace the entire headband, and Sony charges fully one-third of the original list price of the headphones just to replace the headband.Shame on Sony for delivering an overpriced, mediocre-sounding, flimsy pair of headphones! Looks great....sound great...but they WILL break

By Yahoo! Shopping User  Aug 27, 2003 | 5 out of 5 found this Sony MDR-V700DJ review helpful

Just like I said above, they sound great and look even better. Their design is part of their downfall, though. The connections are cool to look at but they will break. Believe me, I had two sets break inside a year (thankfully they were covered by... a Best Buy warranty). I now am on my third set and am waiting for them to break. They all break at the small pivot above the ear. Don't buy these; instead, buy the MDR-V600 or MDR-V900. The 600's sound as good as the 700dj's and won't break. The 900's sound better with more bass and more spatial quality for just a little more. Buy one of these two and leave the 700dj's on the shelf!!! Read more Less

Great sound but plastic headband breaks easily

By Yahoo! Shopping User  Dec 9, 2002 | 2 out of 2 found this Sony MDR-V700DJ review helpful

These have GREAT sound. I listened to a lot of music while lying in bed and now the plastic headband is cracked in 2 place and a small piece has fallen out, they dont fit snugly any more. It should be real easy to fix (plastic parts look they are scr...ewed on) but the estimated cost at the Sony Service Center is $58, way too high for a few plastic pieces! Read more Less

    Great...for 8 months

By Yahoo! Shopping User  Oct 22, 2003 | 2 out of 3 found this Sony MDR-V700DJ review helpful

    Pros: Sounds decent

    Cons: poor construction

I really liked these cans and used them daily for months, but the swing arms on either side started to split and prevented them from sitting right on my head.

    Good Headphones for DJ's

By Yahoo! Shopping User  Mar 17, 2002 | 2 out of 3 found this Sony MDR-V700DJ review helpful

These are good headphones for DJ's who want to hear every detail of break beats. Are somewhat tight and can cause pain if you wear them for extended period of time (1+ hours). Don't buy these if you will be wearing them at work at a desk job for inst...ance. Too painful. The sound is okay but for the price it should have been better. You usually can get them for around $120-130 (including shipping online) and about $150 at electronics stores. I know the sound quality is much better than the MDR-V600's which have a problem with ringing or reverbs. But then again the V600's are a lot more comfortable. It just depends in your personal taste. Remember to try before you buy. Read more Less

A great value to a dj

By Yahoo! Shopping User  Oct 21, 2006

Pros: Great sound when blasted by a club enviroment

    Cons: Fragile

A friend of mine another dj, owns these head phones, I loved them when I used them, so I felt a must to own. For a dj, these are great, but beware if your hard on them, they will not treat you nice. These are ment to be baby'd so take care of the...m and they will treat you as a friend. Read more Less

    Pros: Decent Sound Quality

    Cons: Uncomfortable

Maybe it's because I have big ears but I found these headphones to be incredibly uncomfortable after an hour listening. I'll admit I originally bought them because I thought they looked cool. Sound quality really isn't too bad but you can... definitely find higher quality for the same price. The coiled cord is actually more of a pain than useful, I found it constantly got caught up and tangled on things. One thing I actually did like is that the jack adapter screws on to the headphones. This alone however is not worth the ~$100 price. I ended up selling them to one of my buddies after about 4 months and he still uses them. So I guess it just depends on your ear size. Other reviews are saying they break easily. I don’t think I ever got close to breaking them but I don’t rip up hundred dollar bills either. Read more Less

    The best.

By Yahoo! Shopping User  Feb 11, 2001 | 0 out of 2 found this Sony MDR-V700DJ review helpful

These ARE the best headphones for dj'ing. If you've ever seen the DJ greats, DJ Tiësto and Carl Cox, they use these headphones... They're not the best set of headphones, but they're great quality headphones @ affordable prices.
