    Budget earphones

    By Ryan  Jun 10, 2007

Pros: Cheap, can work in the m"muff" mode or off, with or without battery for the off mode.

Cons: Low filtering capacity, uncomfortable to wear for long.

I bought a set of these earphones and had them for about two years until I lost them after a flight. The sound output and quality is pretty good for listening to TV/audio source, but the noise cancelling function is nothing to write home about. If you have bigger ears, these headphones are not for you, they will become uncomfortable after so many hours of flight. The good thing is that even without the noise cancelling function and the power off, you still can listen to audio output , of course without noise cancelling. Cheap buy. You get what you pay for.

Reasonable NC headphones for a reasonable price

By George  Mar 25, 2005 | 9 out of 9 found this Sony MDR-NC6 review helpful

    Pros: Low cost, good performance

    Cons: limited low end response

I have read reviews of various noise canceling headphones where it was obvious that the reviewer did not understand that the noise canceling only canceled continuous, low frequency sounds, like throbbing jet engine noises, the sound of the air conditioner, etc. It will not completely cancel the sounds of someone talking, general chaotic street noises, etc.

These headphones do a reasonable job of canceling the sounds that it was intended to do. The only issues I had with them were a weak bass response (relative to other headphones) and the level of hum present when canceling was turned on.

Since these headphones are designed for "on-the-ear" wear, they do not offer significant acoustic isolation that a completely over the ear version would. Likewise, the Sony earbud noise canceling version would also be able to block more external sounds, but for significantly more money.

For the price, the NC6 headphones offer a reasonable noice canceling capability at a slight cost of low end response.
