Pros: Many varied tyoes of inputs

Cons: I have not been able to get a decent clear vhs transfer yet.

I read the reviews ... many are glowing with features. I read the manual ... sounded fantastic. I followed the directions and bought 50 of the DVD discs RECOMMEDED best by Sony-the manufacturer. I recorded at three different DVD speeds and e...ven using two different vhs players to test the quality. Terrible! I even took the DVDs to a local Video Only store as the Sony Technical help advised. ALL playbacks without exception were terrible ... no different than at home. I am very dissapointed. I have not seen any review of this product that had described this blurry problem ... but its true. I expected normal DVD clarity and got a very smudged look to the point it is unuseable. In my experience, I would not recommend this device to anyone. Read more Less

Pros: In Standalone mode it connects to your VCR or Camcorder with the red/yellow/white (audio/video cable), also with the DV cable, and also with the S video cable. Very neat feature

Cons: When I make a DVD thru my camcorder, the master copy comes fine (audio and video) both. But when I duplicate it the audio files shut after 2-3 minutes

Pros: In Standalone mode it connects to your VCR or Camcorder with the red/yellow/white (audio/video cable), also with the DV cable, and also with the S video cable. Very neat feature Has a 2 inch screen that shows video (no audio), the screen tells... you the remaining time in the blank DVD and tells you the recorded time while it is recording. So you can edit a particular scene, pause it or stop it. Menu feature allows you to make auto chapters every 5/10/15 minutes or gives the option to switch it off. Has separate slots for Memory Stick Duo/Pro, Memory Stick SD and CF for those who want to make/print a dvd. I used the TDK 16x R- format DVD, it made very good copies in the Disk mode when used as an external drive. CON: This is a very big issue. When I make a DVD thru my camcorder, the master copy comes fine (audio and video) both. But when I duplicate it the audio files shut after 2-3 minutes. I made at least 15 dvds and same experience. I even went and exchanged it with another new piece and I had the same issue. I have put in a request with SONY tech support and am still waiting for them to resolve this issue, or else I will return it to Circuit City. Secondly, not a very big issue for me but does not have a audio/video out to connect to your TV to play as a normal DVD player. In disk mode with computer it connects only with the provided USB high-speed cable. I tried to connect the computer in the standalone mode with a DV cable, it does not recognize the computer. So no Divx/WMA files can be burnt on a DVD. Read more Less
