Pros: Easy to use, Great Camcorder

    Cons: Short battery life.

I bought this camcorder in June 2004. Me and my wife took a trip to Germany and put a lot of mileage on it. Through a deal on ebay I paid $399 and it came with tripod, leather case, and tapes. I also bought an extended battery because this (like m...any others) sucks up power quickly. Other than that, it's a great camcorder. Many people complain that it can't transfer video to the computer without special equipment. Well...I had no problem with my XP computer. I used the USB cable that it came with and started up windows movie maker and it transfered very easily. The video is excellent in quality and the auto-adjust exposure did very well. I was absolutely amazed at what you can capture with night shot. You do not need ANY light to capture video within 30 feet of you. You don't get much color with night shot but I really can't complain. The steady shot comes in handy and the zoom is very shocking. It is very easy to use and there are a thousand features to play with if you want to get technical. I couldn't suggest an overall (including price) better camcorder and I have had my hands on many! Pros: Worked well WHEN it worked

Cons: barely lasted a year and no support

When this camcorder worked it was awesome...2 days after the warrenty was up it went kaput...NO power. I tried new batteries and a new charger but nothing...right before it went bad it was doing all kinds of crazy stuff like it couldn't read the ...tape and would freeze...I have tried to contact SONY but its like they don't want to hear about it and therefore no support.I was going to buy the lastest greatest model but with support like that they can keep thier junk. Sony Handycam DCR-TRV460

The Handycam DCR-TRV460 offers an excellent upgrade from an 8mm or Hi8 camcorder, with digital video recording and the ability to view and transfer your old tapes. But if you don't need 8mm or Hi8 compatibility, competing MiniDV cameras offer superior quality in smaller packages. Read more

    Sony DCR-TRV460 Camcorder Review

Aside from the improvements made on this year's TRV460, there isn't much I can think of that Sony can change (with the exception of increasing the CCD size) to continually keep the TRV line alive and kicking. It functions like a big HC30, but without more manual control. This camcorder does have it's pluses, as it managed to edge out the MiniDV competition (ZR80) in the low light test. As with most camcorders in the low price range, the low light performance really suffers. Most consumers will encounter low light scenarios while using their camcorders, so it's silly to think that this point is not an issue. But it seems as though manufactures continue to consider low light performance on low end camcorders a low priority. Perhaps things are changing, as the JVC GR-D33 may have shown. But all around, the TRV460 has some handling issues with the touch LCD screen, and it has issues in the low light performance arena. These two things combined usually send up red flags for me, as these ... Read more
