    Wonderful Camera for the Price

By Yahoo! Shopping User  Jul 13, 2007 | 17 out of 18 found this Sony Cyber-shot DSC-W80 review helpful

Pros: Excellent Pictures in Normal Light

Cons: Poor pictures in low light, even with Flash

This camera is a wonderful camera for snapshotting! Being my first Sony camera, I was a little worried that it might be missing a few features, especially at this price range. The menu's can be a little confusing at first to navigate, and the ins...tructions that come with it really stink. Just give it time though, it's really easy to use once you play with it some. My only complaint is that in low light situations if you leave all of the auto settings on, it tends to take very grainy, dark pictures (even with the flash). It's really a small complaint though, since there are plenty of settings on this camera for you to adjust. Even if you don't know a thing about ISO's and shutter speeds, this camera produces fantastic images just using the auto settings. The battery life is also fantastic, I used it for 3 hours straight, and the battery meter didn't go down a single bar. I haven't had it for very long, so time will tell if it continues to perform so well in that regard. In closing, in this price range, if you're looking for a small camera that can take quick snapshots, this is the one! Read more Less

    Pros: pocket size,battery life

    Cons: image quality,flash

I own seven digital cameras and this one is the worst by far...The picture quality is awful especially indoors and in low light. In case you buy this camera use it only outdoors.

    Best Camara For The Price

By Yahoo! Shopping User  Sep 20, 2007 | 6 out of 7 found this Sony Cyber-shot DSC-W80 review helpful

Pros: Easy to use for beginers, great outdoors captures, size is perfect, battery is very good.

Cons: Indoor pictures are not to great but acceptable

I brought this camara after getting a lot information from people and cites, and chose this one, 1 price, 2 size, 3 7.2mp, 4 brand and finally I didn't want to miss that special moment, now this cam is everywhere I go, my first choice was canon b...ut the sd1000 is too small and don't have the anti blur technology, the canon sd700 doesn't have the view finder, very important if you want to take pictures without bother other people like in concerts or in dark stages like disneyland, and another thing about this cam is all metal frame, finally if you are looking to take professional shots you should consider to spend a lot of money over a $1000.00 plus all special lents and accessories. This camara works very well for me, I'm not going to miss any special moment even is the pix is not too perfect, hope this review help you to decide. Read more Less

    Great pocket camera

By Yahoo! Shopping User  Nov 19, 2007 | 4 out of 4 found this Sony Cyber-shot DSC-W80 review helpful

Pros: Viewfinder window, great program modes, shutter lag

Cons: the shutter relase sound could be louder

I was shopping for a very good quality pocket camera for outdoor use One of the best features is the veiwfinder window. In high light you can't see the display screen so this view window really helps you to see the shot in high light conditions.... The shutter delay on most compact digitals is terrible, this camera focuses and shoots very quickly. this camera has several very useful program modes and they appear on the screen when you toggle from mode to mode. I shoot with two professional high end SLR cameras but the size and wieght of the cameras are limiting, this camera is easy to carry and use and the photo quality is very comparable to the expensive pro cameras I use Read more Less

    Best sub-compact for the price

By Yahoo! Shopping User  Nov 2, 2007 | 2 out of 3 found this Sony Cyber-shot DSC-W80 review helpful

Pros: lots of features in a small package

Cons: deleting unwanteds could be a little easier

If you are looking for a point, shoot, and slip in your pocket, look no further. shoots above par photographs in all conditions. can get a little grainy in low light conditions, but then again low light is difficult to shoot anyway. Thats why peopl...e spend lots of mony going to school for photography. Thats also why people spend thousands of dollars to pay photographers for weddings and senior pictures. These guys ranting below probably wouldnt be able to take a good shot with a $2000.00 SLR. Ive taken several low light and no light shots and they have turned out very good. maybe not the best, but if you want a pocket cam you have to sacrafice a little. bottom line, great things do come in small packages which is why everyone who knows what the hell they are talking about rates this as one of the best sub-compacts on the market right now -- and one of the best priced at that. Great camera

By Yahoo! Shopping User  Aug 6, 2008 | 1 out of 1 found this Sony Cyber-shot DSC-W80 review helpful

Pros: The multiple settings for different light modes, the video and slide show features, the large display screen, size, battery life

Cons: pictures in low light need retouching, but are still acceptable.

I have read all o the reviews on this cam, and really, I think much of the issues people are having are user errors. While the camera isn't that great at low light, indoor shots, it's still do-able. As for the users complaining about zoomed-i...n shots, I don't know what they're talking about. I took a very close up shot of a sunflower center and it came out incredibly. You could see the small pollen grains and even tiny dew drops. Perhaps these users need to learn how to really use this cam to it's fullest. Either way, I think this cam is a great buy for the casual photographer, especially for outdoor use. Read more Less

    Is what it is

By Yahoo! Shopping User  May 13, 2008 | 1 out of 1 found this Sony Cyber-shot DSC-W80 review helpful

Pros: Size, outdoor photos, image stabilizer

    Cons: high iso

This camera did exactly what I wanted it to do. And that was too give me some basic lessons on digital. With this camera I now know what to look for in my next purchase. This will still be a great pocket shooter but I've learned that Ansel Adams ...I won't be with this point and shoot. The processor is quick and start up is on it but one can lose valuable time navigating through its functions. The lens quality did suprise me and some of the photos I took jumped out of the lcd. Instead of selling this too upgrade I'll keep it around for something light and quick that is small enough too deliver quality without the weight. Read more Less

    SONY W80

By Yahoo! Shopping User  Dec 27, 2007 | 1 out of 1 found this Sony Cyber-shot DSC-W80 review helpful

Pros: small size, battery life, easy to use

Cons: pictures in low light, weak flash

I was using a Canon EOS 400D so I tried to find a smaller and lighter camera for every day use and I purchased a Sony W80. This model has a lot of features and the outdoor image quality is great. The only problem is that the photos taken in low light...,even using the flash, look really grainy, like a painting. In my opinion W80 is an acceptable camera for its low price and its possibilities.
