    The BIG Picture!

    By Luv_arts  May 10, 2005 | 66 out of 76 found this Sony Cyber-shot DSC-W7 review helpful

Pros: Fantastic features, every feature imaginable, supurb quality.

    Cons: None so far

With the DSC-W7 Sony has introduced an amazing piece of technology in a beautifully designed and and crafted package. At 7.2 Megapixels and about the size of a pack of (non filter non king size) cigarettes, the W7 occupies a lofty and lonely position... in the melange of compact digital cameras. Sony went for the best and has collaborated with Carl Zeiss for their unsurpassed Vario Tessar lens system. Sony provides the best and largest (at 2.5") LCD in the business providing all the information one needs to master just about any shooting condition. The W7 features extremely fast recycle times and has a multi-burst shoot mode capable of 16 shots per second. The W7 uses rechargable NiMh AA batteries so there's no hassle with proprietary batteries. Sony claims 380 shots from a single charge so batteries should never be a problem. Virtually unlimited programmability with a plethora of presets for particular or difficult shooting situations (everything from on the beach, backlit night portraits, florescent lighting, to skiing in the mountains and many others). I highly recommend getting the HVL-FSL1B slave flash which will extend the W7's range and capabilities for night shots. The W7 includes Pictbridge for interface with a printer without using a computer but I won't know how well that works until I receive my (yet to be released/shipped) DPP-FP50 printer. Having the ability to turn off the sound is a nice feature for nature shoots. Menus take a minimal amount of time to learn however, the W7 is NOT for people who's clock on their VCR flashes 12:00!. If you are techno-challenged do yourself a favor and get one of Sony's less full featured point & shoot Cybershots. Technology is continuously on the move but for the time being, I believe the DSC-W7 sets the industry standard for high resolution compact cameras Read more Less

    DSC W7

    By Sanjoy  Dec 25, 2005 | 16 out of 16 found this Sony Cyber-shot DSC-W7 review helpful

    Pros: great photo quality

Cons: picture blurs if hand is not that steady, so work on that

I received this camera yesterday as an early Christmas present from my parents. Although initially I wanted the SD 450 from Canon, my parents bought this one for me. Still, after using the camera for a while I was actually delighted with the results.... The best feature however is that you can use it as a camera as well as a camcoder with full sounds. Love that! A 1GB memory card runs a long way with 1000 pics and over 1 hr of video. The battery life is good too. All in all I am very happy with this camera. Read more Less

    FANTASTIC @ $249.00

    By S  Mar 7, 2006 | 6 out of 6 found this Sony Cyber-shot DSC-W7 review helpful

Pros: Well built, fast and wonderful color.............

    Cons: NONE TO SPEAK OF

It's been about 8 months since the W7 hit the marketplace and the price has come way down ($249.00) so I figured I'd upgrade from my older digital. This camera has everything you could ask for and more. I give it an A+ all the way. I picked u...p a set of Sony 2500MAH batteries for 10 bucks and they last forever, at about 400 pics. This includes use of the LCD at all times. I was also lucky as I was able to locate the limited edition all BLACK W-7/B which in my opinion has a much better look as compared to the shinny silver finish, but all in all, they are the same great camera..... Sony left no stone unturned when putting this camera together, and you will love the more traditional look and solid feel of this camera. I should also mention the off to on in about 1/2 second and shuter lag does not exsist. I say GO FOR IT AND TAKE SOME WONDERFUL PICS. RITZ CAMERA SELLS IT FOR $249.00 Read more Less

Pros: great quality for the money, you can zoom in as much as you want on the computer and it actually gets better quality, tons of settings if you have time to figure everything out, the included batteries last a good while

Cons: it doesnt have a nightvision view which would be so much better

great camera for the money, i was going to get the cheaper w5 model but decided to spend a few extra dollars and got the w7, if you have time to figure out all the settings, i highly recommend this camera

By I like pizza steve  Sep 2, 2005 | 5 out of 7 found this Sony Cyber-shot DSC-W7 review helpful

Pros: Great picutres, and compact size

Cons: Uses Sony memory sticks, which can be pricey

Love the camera. Nice and small. Pictures are great, being a 7.2 MP, allowing a good deal of croping. Good weight, and quick to start up. Shutter speed is better then my old Canon powershot 4.0 MP

    Sony DSC W-7

    By carlton_sanderson  Dec 4, 2005 | 1 out of 1 found this Sony Cyber-shot DSC-W7 review helpful

    Pros: 7 megapixels @ 5 megapixel price

Cons: 32 MB internal memory is too small

7 megapixel with a 2.5" LED display. Has all the advantages of a digital camera. The Nickel Metal Hydride rechargeable batteries are a plus. The USB setup puts pictures automatically into your computer. Audio-Visual cord included for connection ...to TV. Software included, but may not be needed if a program for pictures already exists on your computer. Suggest pur-chasing a memory stick "pro;" 256K is adequate unless you want to take a lot of pictures at each "outing." The automatic settings are good, but you can also make custom settings manually. Suggest taking pictures immediately and "learning as you go." Read more Less

    By Lisa  Nov 28, 2005 | 1 out of 1 found this Sony Cyber-shot DSC-W7 review helpful

Pros: Makes me feel like a pro

Cons: Could have better night vision

I searched for quite a while and really got a good deal at Office Depot. Great rebates, too. Search around. It holds short movie clips without taking up too much memory. I love this camera!

    Disappointment

    By Alicia C  Jun 24, 2007

    Pros: umm - pros?

Cons: heavy, very slow shutter, poor auto focus, poor white balance, cheeply made

Perhaps my Sony was made on a Friday or by a guy who was fired 5 mins afterwards but this camera was a huge disappointment for me! I would say that 1/4 of the photos are out of focus with the auto focus. I'll have a pic that looks great on the sc...reen & looks like heck when I download it. Also the shutter speed is miserably bad. I can't take any of the quick (heat of the moment) kind of shots that can be done easily with the cheapest of film cameras because by the time the shutter goes off on the Sony the moment is gone. So no kids or pets or any of the other little things that snapshot cameras are made for. Still shots only! The trap door to the battery compartment is cheep plastic & awkward to manage. Mine has cracked after very little use. And to top it off the white balance is hell! Every pic has to be PhotoShoped. Who wants to do all of this work? Did I mention that it's heavy for a digital as well? Grrrrrr! I have been taking photos since I was a small child & quit frankly I have gone back to film & my $300 digital camera is collecting dust, I want the shutter to go off when I hit the button not a week later & that's what I think of that!
