Pros: from novice to expert (not professional, of course)

Cons: if you're into digital imaging - ok. if you're planning to stay a novice, don't

well, i've used several cameras before (digi and all) and this is my first. i don't think i'll need any other. full of semi-expert features as an option, or simply resort to auto / semi-auto (programmable auto mode). in other words, a gra...ndpapa can use it, and a tech-lover teenager would also be able to appreciate it! yet, for some, it may seem to be too technical to fully utilize the features. pics are splendid!!! you won't believe it! however, if you don't plan to venture much into this digital imaging thing, you may opt for cheaper still-cams with lower megapixels... don't really need anything more than 3.0 if you're planning on printing on 3R or 4R. however, when on A4 size paper, the pic i took beat the pros non-digi cam by far. creativity helps a lot, especially in taking creative shots... By Richard  Aug 27, 2004 | 8 out of 8 found this Sony Cyber-shot DSC-P73 review helpful

Pros: Very easy to use, even I can take great pics with it!

Cons: Takes 6 hours to recharge batterys.

It was very easy to learn to use this camera, the battery life(comes with rechargeable batterys and charger)suprised me,the last one I had ate batterys. I would recommend this camera to anyone,it takes great pics for the price. In the two weeks that ...Ive used it,Ive been very pleased. The only grip I have is the six hour recharge time, but another set(two)of batterys will take care of that.It will also use regular AA batterys....dd Read more Less

Looking for a digital camera for family vacations?

    By Leobon  Mar 21, 2005 | 2 out of 2 found this Sony Cyber-shot DSC-P73 review helpful

Pros: Easy to uses for all ages- professionals stay away!

Cons: Heavy, but for the price its ok!

This camera is a basic digital camera to use for general use. All it is, is that you set the camera on basic point shoot and you're good! I would not reccomend using the video mode because it takes up too much memory, but overall great! I would a...lso recommend buying the 256 MB MemoryStick Pro to go with this because the Memory Stick provided to hold pictures only holds eight (8). Easy to operate and I liked the red eye option as I had lot of my photo ruined because of no red eye option in my previous camera.

    a good beginners camera

    By PhilipL  Apr 29, 2009

    Pros: reliable, good quality images

Cons: for beginners, outdated, low mega pixel

I bought this camera several years ago. It is a good beginners camera. Very reliable. Produces a good image.Easy to use.
I needed a pocket sized camera. A little pricey at the time.but produces a good standard image every time you take a picture.

    my favorite digital..

    By Chelseeeeeeyyy  Feb 15, 2009

Pros: amazing close-up quality, light weight for size

Cons: a bit bulky, small screen

This camera was my mother's camera that she used just for motherly pictures; vacations, family, friends. After my first (very cheap) camera broke, I just wanted any camera I could get my hands on. This sure does take some great pictures for 4.1 m...p. ANYONE can use this camera, and take some pretty decent pictures. I prefer using this camera for close ups on plants, flowers, animals, and figurines, but works just as well for larger shots. The color is great and details and impeccable. This has to be my favorite digital camera. Read more Less

Poor lens quality, but good for amateur shots

    By Mosh  Jan 13, 2007

Pros: Saturated colours, low price, good battery life, two flash modes, various metering modes, you can record video with sound.

    Cons: Poor lens quality, image sometimes looks better in LCD display than on the computer;

This camera is worth the price: a lot of different shooting modes that let you get the best of specific lighting situations (you would be better off having a tripod for night shots). But don't expect too much if you are serious about moving on. ...The lens has a pronounced barrel distortion, so if you take a picture of something rectangular from 4-5 meter and closer, you will see that its borders get rounded on the pic. You cannot hold the exposure independently from the focus in an automatic fashion. That means that in order to focus on a specific plane but with the light metering set on another plane, you have to resort to calculate your desired focus distance manually. That is my second worst complain. Even at 100 ISO, images taken in low light conditions appear to be grainy, and the pixels look mushy at 100%, when taking 4-Mb pictures. The only cases that this is not visible is under bright sunlight. With photographs taken with poor light conditions, sometimes you'll discover that they look much better in your LCD screen than in your computer, so you can not really trust what you see on the LCD. I also dislike the fact that you can use the macro and zoom in, but zooming in will always blur the image. The macro is not very powerful. Overall, if you are getting to learn digital photography or are just willing to take family snapshots, this camera will leave you with a good impression. The interface is easy to understand, the ergonomics are OK, the overall physical quality of the camera is very good. The batteries last for approximately six hours, which is enough for three or four days if you are making constant tourist shots (camera's got rechargable Ni-Cd batteries and a recharger). Once you get to know what the different modes are for and get a 128Mb-or-bigger memory card, you can start building up a nice photo album. Read more Less
