The PEG-UX50 Personal Entertainment Communicator features dual Wireless integration in a compact and light weight design. Powered by Palm OS 5, the UX50 is powerful, portable, and easy to use!

With both 802.11b WiFi and Bluetooth built-in, the UX50 offers two methods of wireless communication for maximum flexibility. Connect to a wireless LAN network using 802.11b WiFi, and you can check e-mail, access the Internet, or HotSync with a PC on the network wirelessly. By pairing the UX50 with other Bluetooth enabled devices you can transfer data between CLIE handhelds, HotSync with a PC, or connect to the Internet via cell phone. The built-in 310,000 pixel digital camera supports up to VGA (640x480) resolution, and is perfect for taking quick snapshots and transmitting over one of the wireless connections. You can also record and play back video (MPEG4, 30 fps, 160x112)!

The new wide-screen design features a high-resolution 480x320 display. The wider display allows more web pages to be readable, improving your Internet experience. The screen lifts to expose the keyboard, or swivels to hide the keyboard and use as a touch screen. Plus, more room is available for the built in keyboard, allowing for more space between each key.

The UX50 also features Dedicated Internal Media Memory (29 MB) for storing multimedia content. The Automatic Data Back-up feature helps protect your information by moving data in RAM memory to non-volatile memory when a low battery state is detected.

    Worth It

Pros: Keyboard with backlight, swivel screen you can flip over, very handy can fit in my purse, blueetooth/LAN

    Cons: power restart

I saw an add online (small icon picture to be exact), clicked it... BIG MISTAKE!!! I can't sleep but just think about it. Went to BB and feel in love!!! I just had to have it. I just had mine a little over a month.. or not even.. but I can't ...leave the house without it in my purse. And of course it is soo handy with gals like me who is not so good with locations/
    directions/
destinations. Turn my bluetooth enabled phone and access the proper website to find my way about LA. And I check my POP email too anytime I want. And with proper configuration.. you can access any hotspots to link to their internet.Camera feature is awesome. Pivot the small camera and just click the capture button and you have a picture on file to insert into your email. Pretty cool. People are always curious about it. Thought it was really expensive.. but once I show the capabilities.. they said they will save some money to be able to get one.If you can afford a PDAs that cost $400 up? Just get this one!!! You don't need an aircard to be able to access the internet wirelessly.. that's added expense dudes.Accessories wise.. pretty decent. Check out the 1G capacity for your software storage (sold separately). Battery... ahhhh.. not bad. But if you are an avid user who can't turn it off for hours? Accessorize!!!Accessing internet via Bluetooth.. don't compare it to accessing it through LAN, or cable/T1 like in your home/office internet access... you will be disappointed. This is more like a speed of a dial-up connection. But for me.. it is no biggy.. as long as I don't get lost when I'm lost in the jungle of Los Angeles and it's neighborhood. I'm chilled! It was all worth the investment.. can't wait to purchase add-on softwares. Check out support!!! Good thing it is palm-based OS.. so I can access and use support on my softwares purchased for my Palm Tungsten T. AWESOME!!!And ohhh.. one thing I don't like. When I stay idle and it goes on "standby" mode.. it takes sssssssooooo long to turn it back on. If there is a way to do it fast.. that I don't know of... a helpful information for me to solve this "pro-ble-mo" would be of great help. Probably there is a way.. I just didn't finish reading my owner's manual.

Finally a Palm based PDA for typing fans!

By Yahoo! Shopping User  Nov 5, 2003 | 22 out of 32 found this Sony CLIÉ PEG-UX50 review helpful

Pros: Keys big enough to be useful. (and backlit too) Lots of embeded features with a camera also. Beautiful screen. First rate wireless connectivity

Cons: Screen could be bigger. Price, although I paid more than this for the Psion S5 PDA I have been using for years

Although I have yet to recieve my own, I have spent so much time at the new CC store in my area that they have a stool reserved for me (well, almost). Anyway, I love it. I hate to write and have been spoiled for so long by the excellent key board of ...old reliable, my Psion Series 5. but alas, Psion is no more. Also, syncing the Psion with a PC has, lets say, been less than a thrilling experience. I have been waiting a long time for a newer Palm or Pocket PC based PDA to come along that not only had the latest features, but also a decent key board. I write all day long for a living, so having to write on a computer is not for me. I prefer to type. Well, it looks like my wait is over. As great as my S5 has been, it is old and outdated and if it ever fails, well much of my data will be lost. In fact awhile back I tried a Palm color unit when they first came out. I loved how easy it synced up with my PC,and the screen. But I hated having to pull out, then fold out the portable keyboard when I was away form my PC just to type in a little note. So, I sold it to my boss and went back to old reliable. Well when I actually get mine (I bought it via the internet because of the price) I will post another update on how it really is to live with. Sleek Sony PDA Impresses

The Palm-based Clie PEG-UX50 is handsome, innovative, powerful, and expensive. The 6-ounce, Palm-based PDA may look like a miniature notebook, but at 4 by 3.5 by 0.75 inches, it's a lot easier to carry. The wide 2.75 by 1.75-inch display offers 480-by-320 resolution, and my shipping unit's screen-which also can be flipped around and over to resemble a diminutive tablet PC-was clear and sharp with excellent colors. Review: Sony Cli PEG-UX50

Overall, the UX50 is pretty close to PDA perfection. It's well-designed and a joy to use. Its primary drawback, of course, is its hefty pricetag. Still, if you're looking for a handheld computer with built-in wireless connectivity and you've got deep pockets, you won't go wrong with the UX50. Read more
