    Godly!

By Yahoo! Shopping User  Feb 1, 2002

I remember the excitement I felt the first time when this vinyl was spinning on my turn table. After the track 'I feel you', which had taken some getting used to, everything else was simply out of this world. It's the perfect DM album the way I want it to be :- very dark, gloomy and atmospheric. The best DM album to date in my opinion!

    Not Violator

By Yahoo! Shopping User  Jul 13, 2001

This album is good, but very far from Violator. What I like most about this album is that it is completely different from Violator
(except for In your room, which sound like a bad Violator outtake). There is some great songs on that, like I feel you, walking in my shoes, Rush, Higher love or Mercy in you. But
I think this album is missing a little bit of melodic power...

Depeche Mode- Songs Of Faith And Devotio

By Yahoo! Shopping User  Jul 4, 2001

This is one of Depeche Modes greatest albums! It's hard hitting (More so, in my opinion than Violator was) yet very musical, containing hit songs like "One Caress" and "I Feel You". It's a great testament to musical talent.

Top album, better than Violator even

By Yahoo! Shopping User  Jun 28, 2001

Some people were terrified about DM's change for this album, and a lot of people still don't get it.
This is a great album, and is my fave DM album along side Black Celebration. Alan Wilder & Flood do an excellent job arranging and layering the album and combined with Martin's excellent songs and Dave's harsher vocals make one wonderful album, one of the most underrated of the 90s.
There was a lot of dissention in the studio making this album and Alan and Flood did a wonderful job of working Martin's songs, and its obvious to see that Alan, as he thought was under-apreciated by Martin and was fed up with Fletch doing bugger all, and its a damned shame he has left and it would be great to see him work with DM in the future.
The best songs on the album for me are Walking In My Shoes, In Your Room and Rush. Both Martin songs are wonderful and the only half weak track is Get Right With Me, which would still rank as a very strong track if it was on Exciter. If you havent heard much DM this is the album to get I think, along side Violator and Ultra.

    best DM album

By Yahoo! Shopping User  May 15, 2001

Out of all the great DM albums this is the best one they have ever done. It flows beautifully. All the songs are easy to get into and well written. Awesome stuff. This album got thrashed by the media just because it didnt sound like violator.

Without a shadow of doubt DM' s best.

By Yahoo! Shopping User  Jul 13, 2000

What a fucking masterpiece: no- one has ever done an album as dark, but beautiful and uplifting at the same time. I' ve been listening to SOFAD for over 6 years and it still grows on me. It' s a shame that many old hardcore- DM- fans didn' t get it...
SOFAD is one of the best albums ever made.

This is thus far the best album by Depeche Mode very emotional, and again its very dark and good to listen to when you feel depress. Defintely worth buying.

    Depeche Mode--otro disco de oro!

By Yahoo! Shopping User  May 19, 2000

Este es unos de los mejores discos, que an producido DM! SOFAD es unos de los album mas oscuros y mas fuertes que DM a hecho en anos--te requerda a "Black Celebration."

    Bon, mais lourd !

By Yahoo! Shopping User  Apr 27, 2000

A new direction for Depeche Mode

By Yahoo! Shopping User  Mar 2, 2000

Depeche Mode's "Songs of Faith and Devotion" was released to an unsuspecting public in 1993. Their music, up to this point electronically based, was often dismissed as "cold" or "unemotional" by the music press. In actual fact, the band's lyrics have never been cold. Even at their darkest (think "Black Celebration" -1986), the poignancy in those old tracks always shone through, and it's the juxtaposition with the hard electronic beats that gave the band its depth.

On "SOFAD", however, The Mode staked their claim to grunge fame, producing an album that is guitar-driven. It even features live drums!

The critics loved it (which says a lot about the conservatism of the music press)but in hindsight, it is one of the band's weaker efforts. Listening to it again, I can't shake the feeling that sometimes Depeche Mode are trying a little too hard to impress with their new 'live' toys. The first three tracks "I Feel You", "Walking In My Shoes" and "Condemnation", are all fairly average. It's only on "Mercy In You" that the adrenalin really kicks in. It's slowed somewhat with one of songwriter Martin Gore's ballads (the rather lovely yet arrogant "Judas"), before it goes all out on the splendid "In Your Room", one of the few tracks on the album with the 'kinky' lyrics that are Gore's stock in trade.

In fact, the lyrics on this album are really first clss, and the orchestra-driven "One Caress" has to be heard to be believed, such is its quality (and to think that it was recorded in real time). If only Depeche Mode had thought more about the actual songs than their desire to escape their (glorious) past, and "SOFAD" could have been a masterpiece.

    strange too!

By Yahoo! Shopping User  Dec 5, 1999

an album unlike any other! although this album is often seen as their pretentious "rock"- album, i cannot see why: when i first listened to "sofad" i couldnt believe my ears:although the songs are as simple as ever, it has a totally unique, very complex sound, sad and uplifting at the same time. music that can really free you from this world. in my eyes, together with radioheads "ok computer" the album of the decade.
