Wonderful debut album

I have never heard a debut album quite like this one, Alicia writes most of her own tracks, and plays a lot of the music for the recordings as well.....what I call a true artist!
The CD starts with a piano classic, but then Alicia drops her own beats into it, showing her own styling which is a great opening for the CD.

She really knows how to sing and isn't afraid to show her voice. But I'll have to agree with those who said it's boring, because it kinda is... lyrics isn't that good and songs.. well, lets juss say you wouldn't want to hear it again adn again, but some songs are very beautiful, like butterfly, why do I fell so sad, caged bird

Her work reminds me of classic Aretha Franklin and Diana Ross's love song with a deep face lift for modern audiences.Her voice is angelic, her beats are slaming, and her words are profound. She is far from the Pop genere which creates adverage performers. Alicia Keys has a future in this industry.

goddamn. i cant take this piano slow soul music crap. i have no soul. now give me shallower music. i cant believe she beat out sum41 on the VMAs for best new artist. i cant wait for her to get raped and beaten tomorrow...oh

I bought the cd when it came out and didn't play until september. I wasn't all crazy about her hype, I just liked the song "Fallin'" alot. I finally listened to it in September and came to find that I only liked a handful of songs on the album. She's got talent and has great respect for the genre she is in but she's more urban than classic. Personally I'm looking forward to a much better effort on the next album. She has a powerful voice and I applaud her for her attempt in showing that R&B has not lost its roots for the most part. But like I said before... She's more geared towards hip hop than R&B. Think about it. But she has some pretty good tracks on the album. 2,3,and 4 are the best in my opinion. Then there is "Troubled" "Goodbye" and that duet with Jimmy Cozier. Ok that's six songs (one more than a handful) but you get my point.
