    A Great Compilation to benefit a Good Ca

    The compilation, all of whose proceeds benefit the charity Free Arts For Abused Children, was culled from the favorite songs of 21-year-old Summer Brannin, who died of cancer in 1998. Aside from the touching story of the wonderful young woman to who...m this album is dedicated, Songs for Summer features some rare tracks (like Soul Coughing's live version of "True Dreams of Wichita," and G.Love's demo version of "Rhyme for the Summertime", and "All Along The Frying Pan" performed live by the Squirrel Nut Zippers), tracks recorded exclusively for the album ("Song for Her" by the Jazz Butcher), and a delightful treat (The Frank & Walters hilarious cover of Tone Loc's opus "Funky Cold Medina"). Overall, there is no reason NOT to get this album....great music and for a great cause. Read more Less

    Songs for Summer is a 15-track compilation of alt-rock artists in tribute and honor of Summer Brannin, a 21-year old kidney cancer victim from San Diego who passed away in 1999. This album was created by her boyfriend Adam Gimbel, and with his friend Adam, he thought of creating a charity in memory of Summer. All of the artists on the album were favorites of hers and everyone appearing on the record is donating 100 of their normal payments and royalties. Highlights: Soul Coughing's "True Dreams of Wichita (live)," The Frank Walters' rendition of Tone Loc's "Funky Cold Medina," "Where's Summer B?" from Ben Folds Five, and "Summer of Love" from the B-52s.
