    Maroon, Gets a 5!!!

In a time of manufactured "POP" stars, people like yours truly long for something new and origional. Seeking the un-stereotipical, no matter what genre. This band breathes a needed breath of fresh, soul-filled air into the "Brittany Spears, NSYNC, M...OBY, Eminem" Poluted radio On-air. Blue-Eyed soul still lives in Adam Levine's vocals and lyrics. Combined with the jazz/soul/funk melodies that mirror music that made Stevie Wonder the legend he is today, Maroon 5 should be praised.(not only by me). Tracks "Harder to Breathe", and "Sunday Morning" will quench the appitite for bright, funky, songs that make you really feel what music can do, while "Must Get Out", and my personal favorite, "She Will Be Loved", should make the music industry hang it's head in shame for patronizing the Bubble-Gum ridden filth heard on the radio these days. I can only hope Maroon 5 doesn't make a dent, but blows a hole in the roof of radio! Read more Less

    Good and Fresh

    Pros: Fresh sound

    Cons: I hear a strong U2 influence

The lyrics are good. The tempo change from song to song keeps you interested the whole cd. The vocals are unconventional and therefore catchy. I enjoy the cd a lot. There are a couple of songs that I hear a U2 sound in....those songs are good.......and as long as you like U2 there isn't a problem at all. Read more Less

The boys of Maroon 5 have certainly come a long way since their days in the indie outfit Kara's Flowers. After the band's demise in 1999, frontman Adam Levine surrounded himself with New York City's urban hip-hop culture and found a new musical calling. Maroon 5 was born and their debut album, Songs About Jane, illustrates an impressive rebirth. It's groovy in spots, offering bluesy funk on "Shiver" and a catchy, soulful disposition on "Harder to Breathe." "Must Get Out" slows things down with its dreamy lyrical story and Levine is a vocal dead ringer for Men at Work's Colin Hay. Don't wince -- it works brilliantly. Songs About Jane is love-drunk on what makes Maroon 5 tick as a band. They're not as glossy as the Phantom Planet darlings; they've got grit and a sexy strut, personally and musically. It's much too slick to cross over commercially, but it's good enough for the pop kids to take notice.

Biography

Maroon 5

A mix of polished pop/rock and neosoul sex appeal made Maroon 5 one of the most popular bands of the 2000s, with such radioready songs as "This Love," "She Will Be Loved," and "Makes Me Wonder" all topping the charts worldwide . Previously, bandmates Adam Levine (vocals/guitar), Jesse Carmichael (keyboards), Mickey Madden (bass), and Ryan Dusick (drums) had spent the la... Read more
