Pro Reviews: Some Kind Of Monster (EP)
| EXPERT RATING: From AMG Reviews Metallica intended to sell their 2003 comeback album, St. Anger, with a series of infomercials by Joe Berlinger and Bruce Sinofsky, directors of the acclaimed documentaries Brother's Keeper and Paradise Lost. Bizarre as that failed plan sounds, what's even more bizarre is that those infomercials morphed into the featurelength film Some Kind of Monster (its title taken from an album track on St. Anger), which documented the making of St. Anger, including the group therapy sessions that helped the band pull back from the brink of breakup. All movies need a soundtrack, so one was cobbled together to coincide with the release of the movie, hence the birth of Some Kind of Monster, the EP. Barring an edit of the title track, there is absolutely no new material here: it opens with the fulllength version of the title track, then delves into six live tracks recorded on June 11, 2003, in Paris, France. All six of these live tracks were on the international EP release Unnamed Feeling, as well as Bsides for a multipart international single of the same name. - Stephen Thomas Erlewine, All Music Guide |

Pros: Ep = so it's SHORTER and over quick!
Cons: weak, plodding, no melodies, sos, annoying mix, sophmoric
Would someone take the wah wah pedal away from Kirk Hammet? can he play anything else? the black CD was the last record worth a %$# from metallica, this CD just blows choad. No melodies, horrible mixing, dumb songs, look too old to sing these types of songs time to retire, the lyrics are so amateur, truly a poser band...metallica has become too jaded, need Dave Mustaine back...I can't even hear the bass player, do they still have one? And turn down the cymbals and drums, Lars' (besides being a greedy ass) drums are way too loud. Another band surviving on the laurels, except this CD really sucks.
This is the kind of CD crap that makes people mad they paid 13.99 or MORE for and it has a few moments worth listening to, total waste of lexan plastic, and to think it will be in bargain CD's with garage tunes and the other FLOPS they had made. ...
