I saw him on the CBS Saturday Early Show and was blow away. I bought the album, and it's great! I'm going to pick up his first one as well. Great mix of blues, rock with a teeny bit of pop mixed in. Prodigy guitar work! One can only hope that he... is discovered by the masses. Read more Less

"Bonamassa" - hard to say but

    By John  Sep 11, 2003

INTRO I purchased this album after seeing Joe Bonamassa live in concert. I've been to 100s of concerts and can't say I've seen anything or anyone quite as talented as Joe Bonamassa. What a super young talent! All I can say is WOW! WHAT So..., It's Like That is a 2002 release. Other albums by Bonamassa include: A New Day Yesterday and Blues Deluxe recently released (2003). WHO Bonamassa (pronounced Bon-ahh-moss-ahh) may not be a name you recognize (or can say) yet. Soon, you'll have it mastered and I bet your children and grandchildren will too. He's that good. WHAT In addition to the 13 blazing tracks included with this CD a second disc (DVD) containing live concert footage (the best way to experience Bonamassa), photos, and a music video are included in the jewel box. You get a great value here. Tracks My Mistake - soaring vocals and lead licks rest perfectly on-top of excellent rhythm guitar playing. Lie #1 - back to basics rock with throaty vocals and awesome guitar. No Slack - showcases the diverse talent of Bonamassa (vocals, songwriting, musicianship). Unbroken - more of a mainstream effort here. Solid. So, It's Like That (title track) - no doubt about it, the whole fretboard is covered brilliantly here! Waiting for Me - introspective and well written. A lot of heart on display here. Never Say Goodbye - super solid (tinge of pop). Nice. Mountain Time - my favorite. This song seeps quickly into your soul the first time you hear it. Listen with caution. I warned you. Pain and Sorrow - showcases the diverse talent and deep respect Bonamassa has for rock-n-roll. Takin' the Hit - The ghost of SRV may have possessed Bonamassa here - at the same time, brilliantly original. Under the Radar - just simple, straight ahead rock. Sick In Love - the guitar bleeds with passion on this one. The Hard Way - driving, straight forward rock. Soaring guitar, awesome effects (plus bonus track, keep listening). Final Note If you are looking for Britney Spears or 50 cent, run! If you are looking for talent and a return to straight ahead rock and blues - - you may just have found a savior in Joe Bonamassa. Enjoy! RecommendedYes Read more Less

Pro Reviews: So, It's Like That

  • All Music Guide

Joe Bonamassa is a young guitar virtuoso, in line with the likes of Derek Trucks and John Mayer (like Jonny Lang and Kenny Wayne Shepherd before them) to be the Next Blues-Rock Guitar Hero. So, It's Like That, his sophomore solo effort, includes production by Clif Magness, and his band includes drummer Kenny Kramme and bassist Eric Czar. Bonamassa shines when he is allowed to stretch out and explore, on songs such as the sonically varied "Pain and Sorrow." There, on a long improvisation, he works through myriad modes of playing, textures, and musical ideas.
