Would give anything to find this on CD

    By virago2@rogers.com  Mar 4, 2006

    Pros: Beautiful music and lyrics.

    Cons: Seems impossible to find.

As a child (8+) I couldn't get enough of this album. Especially the song Mary Go Round. The lyrics are so beautiful about the life of a man from birth to when he is a grandparent. One line in the song about the man

The best album of my childhood

    By rnr911  Oct 24, 2004

Pros: Tunes are upbeat, complex enough to be interesting, European flavor

Cons: Lyrics can be a tiny bit tough to understand due to high-pitched voices of smurfs. :)

This is an awesome album that we had growing up. We were addicted to it. Even my mom and aunt (from Europe) had copies of it since the tunes were 'shared' by some European artists. Kids and adults alike, love, love, love this!I am having a... tough time finding it on CD, however... Read more Less

Pro Reviews: Smurfing Sing Song

  • All Music Guide

Most Smurf albums follow no story line, probably because musically Smurfs can't keep their mind on any one thing in particular other than dancing and having fun. "Smurfing Sing Song" comes close to telling a story, especially with its opening track "Smurfing Land" in which you have a biographical view of a wizard bringing the Smurfs into existence. Children will certainly get a feel for Smurf Land and parents will appreciate the real affection the collaborating artists have for their subjects. It is not all games and parties, though there are plenty here, but a real spark of imagination. In order to take the Smurfs to another level one has to really believe that they are more than a cartoon, that they have feelings and emotions and that somehow their lives are as uncertain and in danger as our own. Within and between the messages of having fun and freedom, the Smurfs acknowledge the harsh realities of city life ("Little Smurf Boat") and, in the brilliantly original "Merry Go Round," ex...plain the circle of creation and death with humility and compassion. With voices inspired by the Chipmunks but far more melancholy (even when announcing it's party time,) the Smurfs reel you in with true empathy for their world. - Peter Fawthrop, All Music Guide Read more Less

Biography

Smurfs

The song "La la la la la la la la la la la" (or "The Smurfs Theme" for short) became a national trademark worldwide in the 1980s when the Smurfs cartoon reached huge popularity. It was actually in 1958 when they debuted in a comic strip illustrated by a Belgian artist named Peyo. Peyo had just finished school and in his search for a job found two of interest: a dental a... Read more
