The Del Fuegos - Smoking in the Fields

Fantastic album, unbelievable band

The Del Fuegos are a passion of mine so yes this is an unashamedly biased review. There's always the hope that they'll get together again. 'Live' they were fantastic. Album-wise? Longest Day is often considered their best but I would ...opt for Boston Ma. Apart from the now dated drum sound song for song it is their strongest offering especially I Still Want You, Shame, It's Alright ... in fact they're all great. Smoking In The Fields is very strong. Again great songs are what separates this band from many others. I disagree completely with the Pro reviewer when he says this sounds like a Dan Zanes solo album because at all times they sound like a band. Check out Dan's solo album Cool Down Time and you'll see what I mean - it is nothing like Smoking In The Fields! I preferred the line up from the 1st 3 albums with Warren and Woody on board. Favoutires: Down In Allen's Mills, Move With Me Sister, Friends Again, and the opening rythm guitar riff on No No Never is staggering. It is a really good record. A little mention for the much criticised Stand Up! album. It is not as good as the others but still has many great songs to make it a worthwhile purchase eg I Can't Take This Place, Name Names, Long Slide (For an out) and Town Called Love. Read more Less
