    Smash-Court 2 aces the competition.

Pros: Players, graphics, sound effects, playability

Cons: Limited create a player options, no Federer

The original Smash-court was a decent game. The graphics and sound-effects were great. For once, it sounded like someone hitting a tennis ball, not opening a Pringles can. However, there were a few faults. There was not a Create-a-player option. It&#...39;s always nice to see yourself (or at least someone who looks a little like you) beating the top pros. In addition, you only had eight plyers to choose from, and not current big-names at that. Rafter had retired the previous year, Hingis had also retired, Kafelnikov was really coming off the boil, so on.Perhaps the biggest problem, however, was the desperately slow play. Agassi should not be hitting forehands like your average 80-year-old country-clubber.Smash-cou
rt 2, though, is a huge step in the right direction. It has a create-a-player mode, and a pretty good one at that. It could be more complete, but no big problem. You also get 16 players (twice what the original offered) to choose from. They are the big-names too. Roddick, Ferrero, Henin-Hardenne, etc. Why Federer is AWOL, however, is a mystery. Perhaps licensing issues, who know's? Last, but not least, the play is much faster. The pros actually play like they are not straight out of a retirement home. All-in all a great, if not perfect game. The guys at Namco have really come up with a serious rival for the X-Box's Topspin.

    Smash Court is "Nice"

By Jonathan  Jul 6, 2004 | 2 out of 2 found this Smash Court Tennis: Pro Tournament 2 review helpful

Pros: Nice Graphics and Smooth Gameplay

    Cons: Gameplay gets redundant

This is a very nice game! It has a very nice career mode where you can train up your player through the ranks. You will get experience based on how you fair in the tournaments as well as in different trainings that are available. A few things that ...I would like improved are when you use experience to improve your skills for stamina for example it will take skill away from the power in your shots and vise versa. If you improve a skill it should not affect your other skills. Also the shots can be a little hard to control and there is no real difference between the three shots that are available. And if you dare try to volley it up into the air over your opponent You Will Be Smashed! But none the less exceptional graphics combined with fluid gameplay makes this a very nice game to play. Even the AI in the stands react very nicely to your good and bad shots. I would recommend this game to be rented not bought. Read more Less

Namco - Smash Court Tennis Pro Tournament 2 review

A long-lasting and quite strong tennis game, albeit hampered by the strength of its main competitors. For sheer outright fun, go for Virtua Tennis 2, but for a longer lasting, arguably more involving challenge, this is the one to plump for. Read more
