    "Prelude To Agony"...

    Pros: Very heavy debut

    Cons: Concept album about suicide

The 1st Type O Negative album is basically a concept album about the suicide of the main character. The songs follow him as he catches his girlfriend cheating on him, follows her and the guy to a secluded location, kills them both, and then kills him...self. For those of us who have been screwed over in relationships, this is a vicarious release. For those of us who haven't been, just wait...you're turn is coming. This album contains my favorite Type O Negative song of all time...Unsuccessfully Coping With The Natural Beauty Of Infidelity. Read more Less

    great debut!

By Yahoo! Shopping User  Nov 7, 2002

This early sound is different than the Type O most people know, but it's still good stuff. More hard core and angry, Pete Steele and Co. put out a great debut!

    A fantastic debut album

By Yahoo! Shopping User  May 23, 2002

Those familiar with the latter T.O.N albums would be slightly surprised by the contrast. Heavier and more brutal than it's successors, blending Hardcore with Doom in a cohesive manner.
    Standout tracks
    Gravitational constant, Xero Tolerance

Very dark and bitter with great melodic guitar solos, especially on the last song.

    This and Bloody Kisses

By Yahoo! Shopping User  Nov 20, 2000

I think are their best albums! These two albums are a total contrast. Slow Deep & Hard is truly dark and full of anger. Truly hardcore metal. Bloody Kisses has a much more gothic tone, than Slow Deep & Hard.

    Goth and Hardcore........Gothcore?

By Yahoo! Shopping User  Dec 13, 1999

Really interesting album. Doesn't have the pop hooks that their later albums do, but this is cool nonetheless. A lot of songs have huge tempo changes that show a transition from hardcore to what would later become the band's signature sound.

The best Type O ever had!

By Yahoo! Shopping User  Oct 5, 1999

This album is truly the best T.O.N. album they ever released. The title of the album is also exactly what you should expect. Slow, deep and hard music which penetrates mind and soul. Made in a time when Peter Steele (lead singer) still knew how to w...rite some of the best lyrics around. There's an overdose of pain, anger, sadness and helplessness scattered throughout the album which reminds one of Carnivore in the years before T.O.N. This 'overdose' is best to discover in 'Unsuccesfully coping..' which is, like the other tracks on this album, just incredible. 'Der Untermensch' is also greatly written although it did get them into trouble now and then due to accusations of racism. 'Glass walls of Limbo' typifies the originality of T.O.N. in that period, although all the songs -in contrast to the last 2 albums- contain great originality and musical genius. Type O Negative was able to keep this high musical standard up until they made 'October Rust'. And now with the latest cd 'World Coming Down' the band is out of my sight for good. All good things come to an end it seems but that's exactly what Type O's music is about so maybe it was meant to be this way. Read more Less
