    Sleeping Star is not exactly identical to Epic's first album, but little has changed. The songs still have that traditional ballad feel; witness "Tonight's The Night (Rock 'N' Roll Lullabye)," a song that borrows heavily from the long history of ballad procedure. Not that any of this is bad. "Emily May" has a rolling piano line and uptempo rhythm that makes it the highlight of the disc...

Epic Soundtracks

In the '70s, Epic Soundtracks formed Swell Maps, with his brother, Nikki Sudden; the band influenced many groups, from Sonic Youth to the Lemonheads. Considering his past, it may seem strange that Epic returned in the early '90s after a long hiatus to write moving piano ballads. His first solo LP, Rise Above, featured J.
