Pros: You feel early Van Halen in every song

Cons: It's Pop feel dates it and can make it seem a bit cheesey

Great Album... To me this is the direction Van Halen would have gone, if the split never happened... Every song on the album has a great hook... Hot-Dog and Shake is a song in the same party vain as Everybody Wants some, or Beutiful Gilrs... Knuckl o...f Panama. Hina is definately in the same vain of Little Guitars. And Two Fools, is classic DLR with almost a humerous loungy feel... Downside is that it is completely overproduced... It makes it feel cheesier than it has to, and definatley dates it as a late '80s album. Like many 1984 tracks that were begginning to get Pop-y... This music does not have that timless feel of early VH... Once you get past the producing, you can see that this album has great tunes right in line with what everyone loved about DLR's Van Halen, but with an updated and more polished feel. I would reccomend it to anyone who liked the Dave Years! Read more Less

Pros: David Lee Roth shows that he's a good solo man

Cons: The album is over to fast leaves you wanting more..

I have listened to David Lee Roth for many years. There's no one out there like him. That certainly sets him apart. With Steve Vai's AWESOME! guitar and the rest of the talented guys in the band how can you go wrong? For me the the CD is fun ...to listen to. Each song provokes a smile or a memory of an event in your life time. It's just an upbeat CD that I listen to on a regular basis. Thanks for all of the years of great music Dave . Read more Less

My review of this BRILLIANT record

By Yahoo! Shopping User  Jul 26, 2000

The original Van Halen, of which David Lee was a 50% partner, was an exercise in calculated simplicity. Like Dave describes in his book, even the studio albums had more or less the feeling of a LIVE band. Don't get me wrong, it was a damn good thing...! But it was very straight ahead, off the cuff, wraglin' for the high note on the third take, soul/blues-based swing-metal band. Skyscraper however...does not have that same feeling. In that sense, it is entirely different than anything else Dave had done...including his debut solo album , Eat Em and Smile. Here, Dave, teaming with the same team of steller musicians (the "Eat Em and Smile Band"), went into the studio aiming at something along the grading curve of Pink Floyd's "The Wall". And while Roth is a totally different character than Roger Waters, this album succeeds in striking that grading curve; albiet Dave Roth is no Roger Waters (or maybe, Roger Waters is no Dave Roth!) ---message continued above....
