Daughter are a five piece posthardcore punk band from NYC whose twist on the welltread genre involves a two girl vocal attack from M.L. Platt and bassist Nicole Lombardi. Skin, their 2003 debut, recalls both Bikini Kill and Sleater Kinney, but of the three they are certainly the most aggressive and the most indebted to hardcore and it's affinity with heavy metal. Skin packs a heavy musical punch, but it is sometimes sidelined by Platt's vague confessional lyrics that fail to convey anything other than prosaic frustration. Daughter show promise, but for all the punkish muscle rev that their songs provide, they ultimately end up spinning their wheels without the poetic punch needed to get things moving.
