Their best
, June 1, 2001Reviewer: MR - See all MR's reviewsI believe that this is the best of the BHTM albums. The production is not bad, it's without a doubt, more produced that the previous efforts, but by no means is it over produced. Content is much more solid from front to back with no weak spots or filler (Mohr's songwriting skills are at their strongest)Major label debut or not, Sister Sweetly is high quality music. -
In the studio....
, March 2, 2000Reviewer: koldshot - See all koldshot's reviewsA great live band runs into the studio and overproduces their major debut. These songs are powerful and beautiful, however, somewhat overproduced. It is a bands natural progression to appeal their art to radio. "Broken Hearted" proves to be the college campus ballad, "Its Alright", "Tommorrow Never" would make Clapton proud, and "Bittersweet" breaks out (my overproduced comment) to the radio waves. "Circle" rolls four powerful chords through are souls. This release has music you will love, however, the record company took to much energy away from the band. ...

Pro Reviews: Sister Sweetly
| EXPERT RATING: From AMG Reviews With guitars remaining firmly in the forefront, Colorado's Big Head Todd And The Monsters ease into their album Sister Sweetly with a laid-back gait. The best of this loping stuff - like "It's Alright" - makes for catchy, radio-ready fare, as does the more rollicking "Bittersweet." Todd Park Mohr's vocals drawl smoky and inviting. But it's not until track 10 ("Circle") that the warmly glowing embers do more than wind hypnotically around a song, finally erupting into full, flaming guitars and vocal pyrotechnics. Along the way, The Monsters touch on breezy funk ("Groove Thing") and acoustic roots ("Soul For Every Cowboy"). - Roch Parisien, All Music Guide |
