Pro Reviews: Sings the Songs of Hank Williams

  • All Music Guide

Hawkins' tribute to Hank Williams is okay, if somewhat unexciting, more conscientious than inspired. His voice is good enough, but the songs aren't done in that interesting a fashion, and the inclusion of an obtrusive female chorus mars the proceedings somewhat -- today, or even in the 1980s, this record would have been done leaner and harder. All of the expected numbers are here among the dozen, including "Your Cheatin' Heart," "Hey Good Lookin'," "Cold Cold Heart," "Jambalaya," and "I'm So Lonesome I Could Cry." (British import)
