In 1927, dashing actor Don Lockwood and blonde bombshell Lina Lamont are one of Hollywood's favorite romantic teams, though Lina mistakenly believes that their on-screen love is for real. Don and his less famous partner Cosmo have worked their way to the top the hard way, through vaudeville, stunt work etc. When The Jazz Player arrives and sound changes everything in the movie business, Don is ready. Not so Lina, whose shrill voice makes a mockery of the musical that their new film has been made into, despite the best efforts of a voice coach. Aspiring actress Kathy Selden saves the film by dubbing Lina's voice, but Don is in trouble when he starts to fall in love with her.

User Reviews: Singin in the Rain (1952)

  • Overall:

    A Refreshing Film for All

By Yahoo! Shopping User  Oct 18, 2001 | 1 out of 1 found this Singin in the Rain (1952) review helpful

This movie is a classic. The story occurs just as sound is being introduced to movies. It involves an actor(Gene Kelly) who is at the peak of his career in silent films, and finds himself doubting his success in talking movies. It also stars an upris...ing actress of the stage (Debbie Reynolds) and an arrogant, but famous actress of silent films (Jean Hagen) The story is about love, and contains comedy. The music makes the story come alive. It is a movie that will leave you smiling. Read more Less

    Pros: Fantastic choreography and songs

    Cons: slightly muffled sound quality

I heard about this movie from so many people who had loved it but I had never seen it myself. So when I had the chance to see it, I didn't let anything stand in my way. All through the movie I was captivated by the sheer joy of it all. The glitz ...and glammer of stage life and productions. Fancy a musical about making musicals. I was hooked. Since that first veiwing I have seen it many more times and yet never tire of it.Gene Kelly is outstanding as the delightful Don Lockwood, Debbie Reynolds is captivating as the sweet Kathy Selden and Donald O'Connor is charming playing the effervescent Cosmo Brown. All in all i thoroughly enjoyed this film and would recommend this film to anyone who has ever had an imagination. Read more Less
