By Yahoo! Shopping User  Mar 22, 2008

    Pros: Passion

    Cons: Language

All of Prince's music has three parts that make it a prince song; A) Passion B) Mystery C) Emotion
This is almost as good as it gets.

For Mr. German Man - Additional

My father is a talented session and tour Trumpet player; he performed and toured with Tyrone Davis, The Emotions, Donny Hathaway and other '70s notables. My mother was a soprano with the Lyric Opera of Chicago, a world-class opera company. My musical origins are substantial. My other favorite artists are as follows (meaning I have just about everything they committed to record): ABC, A-Ha, Anita Baker, George Benson, David Bowie, George Clinton, Dead or Alive, Depeche Mode, Thomas Dolby, Erasure, Peter Gabriel, Heaven 17, Lena Horne, Jamiroquai, Chaka Khan, KMFDM, Bob Marley, New Order, P.I.L., Pet Shop Boys, again Prince, The Roots, Spearhead, Tina Turner, TKK, and Nancy Wilson. Throw in my love of Verdi opera and I zink I run ze moozikal gamut a leetle bezzah zan you zoo, mein fool. Beat all this, if you can. I may have not been right to criticize your review, minor and correct though my needling was, but the broadside you leveled was unnecessary, and indeed shows an unbalanced mind. The words we leave on the internet shall remain here, in some form of another, forever. Be more careful with yours.

An album with so much quality, you'd think that the songs from the 'Purple Rain' album were over-rated. If you are a non-fan, I'd strongly reccomend that you buy this album. The tracks will want you to play this again and again. The stand out tracks are the title track, 'It', 'Hot Thing','U Got The Look' and the best track on the album 'I Could Never Take The Place Of Your Man.' Absoulute genius. Buy it, NOW.

just when you think 1999 and purple rain were the peaks....the genius shocks us again...this album is so diverse..touches subjects that are intellectual and along with the music and different styles of music this is his best album to date or should i say of the 80's

I really like about seven pieces on this double album, but some of the songs just aren't as good. Seriously, do you really think "Play in the Sunshine" is as cool as the title track? I don't. It seems like pretty much all of Prince's album's only have about 5 great songs on them, with a bunch of filler, including sappy ballads. I only like his fast upbeat funk.

The Artist at his best! Indespensible

By Yahoo! Shopping User  Sep 20, 1999 | 1 out of 1 found this Sign 'O' the Times review helpful

I've been listening to the Artist now since I was two years old, when I first heard the song "Dirty Mind". After having heard that song, I have been a huge fan of the artist and his music ever since.

For a very long time I had always felt that "Purple Rain" was the artist at his most creative, innovative peak. That was until I heard the album "Sign 'O the Times". This album was made in 1987, and is unbelieveable, and truly ahead of its time. ("If god one day struck me blind, your beauty I'd still see.") There aren't too many albums of today that are good enough to be a "perfect album". There are only a few: This one, Purple Rain, Thriller, and Stevie Wonder's Songs in the Key of Life. This album was done at the apex of the artist's brillant and illustrous career that in my opinion, shows no sign(of the times)of slowing down.
