    Cool CD that's probably underrated

By Yahoo! Shopping User  Sep 26, 2004

Pros: good from start to finish

Cons: the order of the songs drags

This is another great CD from start to finish just like Nimrod,Dookie and Warning!

The order of the songs makes the CD seem drabber than it is at first but just play with the order of the songs and make it have a more upbeat flow.

    I love this CD!

I recommend this and the ones mentioned above for their play-through-ability from start to finish.

I also recommend Kerplunk and Insomniac for any real Green Day fans! Although not as good from beginning to end as their great albums they are both worth owning because there are some cool songs on both.Green Day rocks!

Yeah there are a few weak tracks on this album but there are also a lot of great ones. There's a lot of mixture and variation found on this album and just one thing it's Green Day...of course it's gonna be good!!!

Yes Green Day is growing up....

By Yahoo! Shopping User  May 17, 2003 | 1 out of 1 found this Shenanigans review helpful

Admittedly, seeing another 14-track green day album that only lasts 30 minutes or so might give some people some shudders of their Insomniac days, but do not fret, not every track on this album is two minutes and 14 seconds long. Many people who havent heard Green Days material might just scoff at this collection, but for those who own all their records, this platter of B-sides and covers is truly a refreshing side to green days punk roots and pop flash. For those who think that green day will become soft, fear not; they STILL are a good band. For those who think they suck, then why are you reading this? Just on Warning alone, just listen to Blood Sex and Booze and Castaway if you think they cant rock it anymore. As for Shenanigans, yes a few of these songs SHOULD have been been on previous recordings. Yes a few songs should have just been scrapped. ( A song about driving drunk was scrapped from the stateside version ) Yes green day actually can do Ramones songs justice. However, a cover of the 60s classic Tired of Waiting for You can help solidify Green Day not as kids in adult bodies making loud and fast music, but as true musicians. Like the Ramones ( who always did cover songs on their albums ), Green Day can prove that theyre more than just a novelty act. If the Ramones can last 22 years, give Green Day another 10 to 15 years and see what kind of tomfoolery they can get themselves into.

    Shenanigans = So-so

By Yahoo! Shopping User  Aug 12, 2002 | 0 out of 1 found this Shenanigans review helpful

I personally think that Green Day's "Shenanigans" was good, but it could have been better. Most of the songs left me wondering why they were not included on previous albums, but some left me knowing why. I'm torn about this album. While there are many great songs on "Shenanigans", there are also not-so-great ones.

I think what this album lacked was energy. With their other albums I found myself time and time again with the desire to jump into a moshpit, but this one did not entirely have that effect on me.

Don't get me wrong, I love the CD, particularly "Sick of Me", "On the Wagon", and "Ha Ha You're Dead". I just think that more time and effort should have gone into it.

Green day is one of those bands that even their throwaway b-sides are still better and more energetic than many people's hits. For the longest I had a similar compilation from the b-sides. Most of them are here and are now favorites of mine. The selection of styles on here is pretty diverse. Now if you really want to complete your b-sides collection get these:
    Ballad Of Wilhelm Fink
    Big Yellow Taxi
Good Riddance (The original b-side version)
409 In Your Coffemaker (1994 Redone Version)

and a bunch of live tracks and youve got it all. The sound is excellent, with a great job done on remastering of the 94-era tracks. Highly reccomended, especially to longtime fans. Only complaint..its too short. Those songs I listed above could have easily fit..but no matter. A great CD!

In response to the wise ass dick weasel who conjectured that Shenanigans contained a "country" song: I do believe you're talking out your ass. The album was good and despite your homosexually inclined comments, i'm sure it will sell quite a few copies. I must also point out that the songs contained in 1,039 SOSH and Kerplunk were of a much lower quality than those contained in Dookie and Nimrod. I cannot, therefore, condone your theory that old Green Day is supirior than more recent material. Piss off.

    Good!

By Yahoo! Shopping User  Jul 4, 2002

Shenanigans is a cd of rare tracks from singles and soundtracks, covers, and compilations. Some songs are good, but what I think people are expecting is that this is Green Day's new album which it isn't, but otherwise it has some good songs on it like "Suffocate", "Tired Of Waiting For You", and "Ha, Ha You're Dead."

Everything You Like About Green Day!!!!!

By Yahoo! Shopping User  Jun 28, 2002 | 0 out of 2 found this Shenanigans review helpful

This is a compilation album of previously unreleased songs by none other than the world's most beloved punk band: Green Day. The tracks on this album are either from an unreleased song or one that was on a soundtrack and didn't make it onto an album. What's best about it, though, is it contains songs from when the band was just getting going through the present. There's nothing to dislike about 'Shenanigans'.

Green Day is great and u make me sick

By Yahoo! Shopping User  Jun 28, 2002

Shenanigans is the cd for any Green Day fan. Big fans like myself will want to add this to their cd collection.

HOW DARE YOU SAY BAD THINGS ABOUT GREEN DAY! First off this is mostly old Green Day from around the time of Dookie and Insomniac. Second of "Don't Wanna Fall in Love" is a good song and is far from being a country song. where the hell do you get "country" from listening to that song. people like you make me sick.

    Terrible Green Day

By Yahoo! Shopping User  Jun 27, 2002

They've definitively gone a long way but have followed a path of cheap easy born-for-radio songs. If you liked the old Green Day there is absolutely no way you will like this. The only reason you may like this album is if you like some other kind of music that is cheap and easy to listen (i.e. the kind of crap playing on radio).

Of course this is very subjective but the part about this album being something else than the Green Day we used to know is terribly true as the group has completely changed style and has even gone as low as playing country in one of the songs of the album (incridebly named I don't wann fall in love, which is pretty annoying since Green Day has always avoided the path of cheap lyrics about relationships a la blink). Of course if you like country it's a good thing, but if you like the sound of the old Green Day this is definitively not an album you'll want to be near from.

not so much a review as a retrospective

By Yahoo! Shopping User  Jun 26, 2002 | 0 out of 2 found this Shenanigans review helpful

this cd is bound to have some radio playable tracks on it. their last cd did. plus it will have some boring songs that everyone hits the skip button for. then there will be songs that dont suck so much, so you jsut wait and listen through them til you get to the good ones.
