The MD-MT821 lets you enjoy long hours of high-quality digital music on the go. A large shock-resistant memory ensures smooth playback, even if used while jogging or driving in a car.

The MD-MT821's lightweight and compact body is just about the size of an MD case. Its size and lightweight design make it ideal for the active music enthusiast. Just slip it into your pocket and take it wherever you go. Enjoy long hours of music listening on the go with the included rechargeable lithium-ion battery. A single charge can provide you with up to 11.5 hours of non-stop playback and up to 8 hours of non-stop recording. Even longer playback and recording times can be achieved when combined with an AA battery by using the supplied detachable battery case. The MD-MT821 has a large memory buffer of 40 seconds maximum thanks to 16 Mbits of DRAM. This virtually eliminates the annoying skipping that can occur when using the MD player in a car or when jogging. The high-fidelity earphones have a convenient backlit LCD remote control that displays information such as disc/track name, battery status and play mode. Operating the MD player is easy even in dark locations. Triple Shuttle Buttons are also provided for convenient control of MD functions such as playback, off and volume level.

    sharp 821 minidisc recorder

I bought the sharp 821 because it's considered good for live or field recording with a microphone. I was skeptical of it's tiny size, and the operating buttons could be a little bigger. But it has served me mostly in a reliable fashion for more than... a year now. I have had a couple of recording failures that could be due to bad (cheap) discs. I don't bother with the remote control gizmo and wouldn't go out of my way to pay extra for it. I think the Sharps are at least as good as the Sonys, and generally $100 less. The most annoying feature for everyone that mic-records with portable MDs: When you adjust the recording level it makes a little dead spot on your recording each time you hit the little button.
