    Great TV for the price

By AndyW  Nov 22, 2007 | 1 out of 1 found this Sharp LC32D43U review helpful

Pros: more then enough inputs for any entertainment center hookup

Cons: HORRIBLE remote control and sound

Ive had this tv for about 2 weeks now, and ive read alot of mixed reviews. This tv seems to have banding issues (parts of the screen are darker/lighter), but it only seems to be on new tvs. Its a factory defect, but if your tv doesnt have it when you... buy it, its not going to happen. There are 2 hdmi inputs, 2 sets of components, 1 pc input, 1 digital toslink out, 1 l/r rca out, and 1 set of standard rca jacks. That is plenty for the home entertainment system. The pc input is unfortunately RGB, so it wont be compatible with most low end computers. The time it takes for the channel to change from an analog to digital signal is a bit too long. Ive looked at many lcds trying to find a nice deal, and it seems most with an analog and digital tuner had this problem. The remote is absolute JUNK. When i think of a TELEVISION, the first thing that comes to mind on the remote control should be the volume and channel buttons (right?), well this is another remote where those were an afterthought. Its a foot long (no joke) and the buttons are up the remote about 6 inches from where its comfortable. The remote is backlit, but fiding the button to turn the back light on is another task in itself. it is exactly the same shape as the number buttons. The tuners are great. i was quite suprised to see how well it picked up over the air signals. Im using a simple indoor antenna, and ive never had a problem with the picture breaking up because of signal strength. Another issue i found with it, is that it only has 2 types of 'strech' modes, and no zoom mode. It really wont be an issue as soon as the dig tv act takes place, because every broadcast will be in 16;9 The sound is another major killer. I consider this a budget lcd tv. Its by a company that has great products, its not the bottom of the line, but sound vs picture quality came up. If you are using this hooked to a receiver, then the sound isnt an issue, so the picture quality is well worth the bad sound. Its a very sexy tv. the cabinet/stand all flows very well. It looks like the design took some effort (you've all seen the lcds that just look like crap.. viz...io) It has green/red leds as indicators on the front of the screen. That is a big killer, they should have went with blue (and after my warranty is up, ill be cracking it open to replace the leds). You can set names to individual inputs, which is nice considering there 6 of them. Another disappointment (that probably wont mean a thing to you) is that there is no time display. It really says nothing about the tv though. As others have said, look around before buying this tv. My local big box company had this tv for $1500, i found an online store that had it for $704.95 (and the company was highly recommended in the lcd community) Read more Less

    Bad/Questionable parts and craftsmanship

By Yahoo! Shopping User  Sep 18, 2008

Pros: Easy to use with decent picture/sound quality

Cons: TV quality is questionable...Screen goes black when turned on

Do not buy this SHARP TV (or other Sharp TVs) for the following reason: The quality of the parts used and/or craftsmanship of the TV is not good. After a year or so every time I turn on the TV the screen stays black. I have to cut the TV on/off many... times for it to finally return a picture. Sometimes I have to totally unplug it before a picture is returned. If you research this issue on google it seems to happen a lot. I contacted customer service who informed me since my one year warranty is up they can do nothing for me even though it seems to be a widespread manufacturing issue. Read more Less
