Nomeansno - Sex Mad

Punk's jazziest and most progressive outfit, Nomeansno rock about as hard as they ever have on Sex Mad, especially on the song "Dad," which was a college radio hit for them back in the '80s. The song is a first-person story of abuse and it's a bit chilling, even though it's spit out at slam-pit's pace. The other great song here is "Sex Mad," which is as punk rock as Nomeansno gets. But this Canadian band's heart is really in long, repetitious, art rock tunes, and there's plenty of those here, especially on the B-side, which understandably drags a bit. While not as complete a record as Wrong, which came later, Sex Mad is one of Nomeansno's more accessible releases.
