    Too 80's

I've read review among review hailing about this being maidens best album- however i don't agree. It's a great album, but it kinda reminded me of Judas Priests "Turbo" album with all the cliche 80's synthesizers and whatnot.... Alot of the songs on this album are kinda cheesy 80's, but nevertheless damn catchy and well done. Please don't get the idea that i'm being a ney-sayer, i love this album but you have to be in a certain mood in order to enjoy it. "Infinite Dreams" is a great song for when you're hung over, i can't explain but it's PERFECT for hungoverness. "The Evil That Men Do" is the reason i bought this album in the first place, i downloaded it and listened to it nonstop for hours on end (i woulda bought it anyway because dling music and not buying albums is cheap), "Can I Play With Madness" is exactly what i was talking about with the typical 80's synthesizers but hey Priest and Ozzy tried synth (Ultimate Sin) and they realized that it was a bad idea and returned to normal sound, despite the extreme cheesiness of that song it's unbeliveably catchy and you'll find yourself loving it. The Title Track has an AMAZING Instrumental section towards the end, but you know how Bruce has a way of getting really into the songs and kind of ruining it by making it seem wierd ("Today is born the seventh oneBorn of woman the seventh sonAnd he in turn of a seventh sonHe has the power to healHe has the gift of the sechond sightHe is the chosen oneSo it shall be writtenSo it shall be done") it's said in a very strange way that kinda ruins the mood of the song. Bruce did the same thing on one of his solo career songs called "The Black Widow" but ya know everyone has their flaws. probably my favorite track on the album is "Only The Good Die Young". I think the guys were trying a bit too hard on this one and kinda unawaringly threw a few things in by accident which made it kinda wierd. One thing i really liked about the album is that it told a story that i didn't realize until i read the AMG review. check it out, and check this album out Read more Less

Pro Reviews: Seventh Son of a Seventh Son [Limited Edition]

  • All Music Guide

In 1988, harsh thrash metal and radio-friendly glam rock were the two chief heavy metal genres. Instead of aligning themselves to either camp, Iron Maiden stuck to their guns and issued a concept album, Seventh Son of a Seventh Son. Concept albums had spelled disaster for other metal bands in the past, but this proved not to be the case with Maiden, resulting in what many fans consider their last true classic album (and the last with guitarist Adrian Smith, until their late-'90s reunion). Although the songs are all lyrically tied together by the story of a prophet who tries (unsuccessfully) to warn a village of an impending holocaust, they don't have to be listened to in succession to be enjoyed -- one of the main reasons the album worked so well. A total of four singles were issued in the U.K. (all Top Tens) -- "Can I Play With Madness?," "The Evil That Men Do," "The Clairvoyant," and "Infinite Dreams" -- which all prove to be the album's best cuts. But like earlier Maiden albums, thi...s is a complete album -- while "Moonchild," "The Prophecy," "Only the Good Die Young," and the epic title track are not as well-known as the singles, they are just as noteworthy. Seventh Son of a Seventh Son marked the end of a golden era for one of metal's all-time best bands. [Note: as with all of Iron Maiden's 1998 reissues on Raw Power, a multimedia section is featured on the CD, which includes videos, band biographies, tour date history, and photo galleries.] - Greg Prato, All Music Guide Read more Less

Biography

Iron Maiden

Known for such powerful hits as "Two Minutes to Midnight" and "The Trooper," Iron Maiden was and is one of the most influential bands of the heavy metal genre. The often-imitated band existed for over 20 years, pumping out wild rock similar to Judas Priest. Iron Maiden has always been an underground attraction; although failing to ever obtain any real media attention in... Read more
